"[D]rones now kill more soldiers and destroy more armored vehicles in Ukraine than all traditional weapons of war combined, including sniper rifles, tanks, howitzers and mortars, Ukrainian commanders and officials say."

French Senator Claude Malhuret: "Washington has become Nero’s court, with an incendiary emperor, submissive courtiers and a jester high on ketamine... We were at war with a dictator, we are now at war with a dictator backed by a traitor."

Polish PM Donald Tusk: “I will repeat once again what seems incredible but is true: 500 million Europeans are begging 300 million Americans to protect us from 180 million Russians who have not been able to cope with 40 million Ukrainians for three years.”

This festive season I’m sharing a video every day for the next 24 days showing useful OSINT tools & techniques. Creating this OSINT Advent Series has been a lot of fun and I hope it’s helpful for the ever-growing OSINT community! 🎄👇

I don't think we've confronted the fact that the perceived excesses of the "woke" agenda are coded feminine, and the actual excesses of the Trumpist agenda are coded masculine. Given how deeply misogyny is embedded in US society (and not just), it's obvious why the latter won that contest.

‘Woke’ didn’t lose the US election: the patrician class who hijacked identity politics did | Nesrine Malik

Why is this simple explanation being so widely embraced? Because it does not require a commitment to real, structural change, says Guardian columnist Nesrine Malik

Today's #patcadvent image is Moomin looking a little nonplussed at being served soup by invisible shrew mice. This illustration can be found in Tove Jansson's Moominland Midwinter which is currently sitting next to me ready for its seasonal re-read.

I just found out that around 20% of the neanderthal genome still exists today in living people!! No individual person has more than 3 or 4% but we don't all have the same bits. If you add up all the bits we've found, about a fifth of the Neanderthal genome is still present on earth today.

Right, but astonishingly… that appears to be a decent retrieval mechanism for information that was present in the training set. It’s like the structure of language turns out to be a very good carrier signal for encoding things that can be expressed linguistically.

I came onto Bluesky an hour ago, and the first two things I saw were posts providing useful context for understanding the imposition of martial law in South Korea—the exact kind of thing that Twitter used to be so useful for in a developing crisis.

The worst things get, the more utopian thought flourishes. (No I don't have a graph to illustrate, it's a speculation not a research finding.) But if so, expect some spectacular writing on political utopias in the coming years.
