Brainwashed into liking new fashion is always a killer trope. Like an assimilation plot but part of it involves changing a character’s mannerisms and outfit. A rebellious person becoming orderly and preppy. A hero becoming a lowly henchman in uniform. Self-expression irrelevant.

I always think to cosplay, because there is always a level of interpretation and exaggeration. So you are extrapolating the interiority of a character and the details beyond the text, which are theoretically inaccurate to the "real" version of that character, which lends itself to that kind of...
...compounding error. Double- and Triple-Blind-What-Ifs (in the context of Alternate History) are a good example of this same point, just not in the context of me wrangling with my wretched and abstract sex drive.
There has got to be a term for a transformation of someone into some manner of imitation of themself (e.g. into a cosplay or a plushie or what have you) where the focus is on difference between the someone and what it turns into.
I know some artists are absolutely against the idea / concept of people taking the artist's art and using it as a Muse to Role Play. But to anyone who is, I WANT you to follow me. Even IF it's just a RP account. I WANT to see your interpretations / accuracy of a character. And give them a kiss.
People don't tell you this, but if you manage to enter their mindscape, you can fuck around with their mental image of you and they will just believe it. You can strip their mental image of you naked and they'll act all flustered when you show up clothed. It's very fun; I strongly recommend it.
