I would LOVE a Mormon essay on Secret Wars. Heck, maybe I’ll write it. The notion that humans have the potential to become gods is a significant part of Mormon theology. In my life, I’ve encountered very few works of art that take the idea seriously. Outside superhero comics, that is.

The ongoing #EventsDearBoy project has been one of the best reasons to log into Bluesky this year. As a pretty casual comics fan, been an absolute delight to get such witty, insightful and succinct, overviews of the big shakeups in the worlds of Marvel, DC, et al. Can't believe we're at the top 10!

I have bought books by @faitherinhicks.bsky.social (notably Friends With Boys), gifted the copies to friends or schools, and then repurchased them AT LEAST three times. Worth it every time.

I’ve taken my kids (both under 5) grocery shopping every week for years. They help me find the aisle numbers. They hold the produce and put it in bags. They pick out food they’re actually willing to try. They swipe the cards at checkout. AND they (usually) make the grocery clerks smile.

Except then the story flips to be about a man-made God judging humanity, one by one, on terms similar to a performance review where you have to mark yourself

Not to kick us while we're down, but we have a stupid national anthem, too. Hard to sing, bad meter, stolen tune, and the entire message is, "SOMEBODY CHECK ON THE FLAG!! IS THE FLAG OK??" Just an embarrassment.
Been experimenting with a way to make gochujang-flavored almonds for snacking, and I think I’ve got a winner here? Almonds toasted in a pan, and then coated with a gochujang slurry (gochujang and water, plus salt, pepper, garlic powder, and ground cumin).
I spent several hours today reading through this whole thread and made two discoveries: 1 - Many Bsky posters whose opinions I quite enjoy reading are (surprising to me) pretty big comics nerds, which is great. 2 - My taste in comics is… suspect.

My current listen is a really engaging book, but I had to chuckle a little when it mentioned the Hawley Smoot tariffs as a boring factoid with no relevance to modern America. The book’s from 2018 (3rd edition), so I doubt the author could have known the stupidity that was coming. But still.
This year, the Most Dad Things I did were: 1 - Started reading historical biographies in earnest (with a specific interest in Chester Arthur). 2 - Developed prediabetes. 3 - Began curating a collection of canned beans and bean recipes. 2 and 3 are likely connected.
