On the language of Homeric Greek, and the language of a certain forthcoming film: here are a few simple observations.
A side project I've been working on—a curated link page of important essays on video game narrative—is now live. You can read about it on my blog: azhdarchid.com/the-game-nar... Or you can go straight to the dedicated website: www.gamenarrativereader.org

One of the things that, as lead writer, I had to bang into the head of senior leadership sometimes was that writers were not interchangeable even within a project. One writer knew a certain companion inside and out. When we lost that writer, a new writer coming in took twice as long to do the work.
Hey, so, I was so angry today that, for once, I blogged it instead of posting about it. Games media, especially mainstream games media, cannot keep abdicating responsibility in how it talks about these things an-evening-at-the-inn.ghost.io/video-game-s...
"Last year, Microsoft made $101 billion in profits, got a $12.5 billion tax break from Trump and paid its CEO $96 million," Sanders said. "This year, it's raising the price of an Xbox by $150 and eliminating 3,200 jobs. Please don't tell me corporate tax breaks create jobs. It never trickles down."
Bernie Sanders is mad about the Xbox layoffs
The senator from Vermont is pretty chapped about the price hikes, too.

my belief is that at the end of the day, great games are made by groups of people who have high trust with each other & can fluidly execute a shared vision. which is a small part of why these layoffs are so devastating- it's not just about jobs, it's about these "trust structures" being torn apart.
"The people who work in this business will see it for what it is: careful, practiced skill, full of sacrifices you made for other people."
Had reason to be reminded of this piece on writing in collaboration with others, about voice and generosity. Highly recommend reading, if you write for (or want to write for) video games.

been in montreal six years and the highest praise i can give the city is that the crowd for metal concerts is top tier
many of us warned that every successful game company under the sun being acquired was going to be a death blow to games in the long run. The business owners who sold are rich, and the rest of us eat shit with no collective bargaining or residuals.
thats the "stomach hurts" stage of production. its when your stomach hurts all the time
if any Xbox employee from any studio or part of the company want to chat with a reporter about all this, anonymously or otherwise, my email and Signal are in my bio, and I would like to listen. I cannot fathom what everyone must be feeling right now.
Zaire wrote the heart and the truth in those scripts.
If anyone is looking to hire a Peabody and BAFTA winning senior writer, I am looking for work. I’ve got six years experience in games. Everything from indie to AAA. I am not married to staying in games. I am hoping to relocate to the Bay Area. I am keeping my ears to the ground.

Watched a test run of this (I work on the project) and it's wonderful. A lot of well-summarized insight on how to approach narrative design in a production environment.

Been helping make the movement on Young Suns feel a bit more zippy and responsive and I'm really enjoying boosting around on planetoids at the moment.
"a goofy movie": a humble title. why it's not even necessarily "the" goofy movie. we simply, respectfully offer you this story for your consideration "doug's 1st movie": the hubris of icarus. the unbridled audacity to imply that this is only the 1st chapter of the Doug Cinematic Universe. pathetic
the best part of pokopia is walking around a little pokemon habitat where everyone is sleeping and playing adorably and then getting a loading screen tooltip that says "marshmeo - this sneaky critter uses its steel proboscis to suck the bone marrow out of its prey"
my heart goes out to all the talented creatives at Bungie who struggled under catastrophic mismanagement for years trying to make a good game who will likely be thrown into the worst games job market in history
