Dragon Quest was launched on the Famicom on May 27, 1986, in Japan, and sometime in 1989 in North America under the name Dragon Warrior. The game became a sensation in Japan, but in North America, it was a commercial failure until Nintendo Power gave the game to subscribers, which sold well.
Don't have a lot of skin the game but I was bummed by the Dragon Quest XII reveal. I understand not wanting to go grimdark but I think there was a chance to reconsider the assumptions the series has made since the PS2 and imagine a different branch from the Famicom era. New stuff looks so phoned in
When I eventually get that old, I want to spend my remaining years in a retirement home playing Wii Bowling. That sounds like a good, peaceful life.
