It is called "Star Trek" and is set in the year 2069. The TV series, which the BBC bought from America, features a colossal Spaceship with By CLIFFORD DAVIS 430 men and women from Earth aboard. It will replace "Dr. Who" as the Saturday tea-time thriller, begin-ning on July 12, "Star Trek" will run to the end of the year. The series has had a tremendous impact on American TV audiences. Scientists from the Rand Corporation acted an technical advisers. And the Smithsonian Institution has secured a print of the original pilot programme for its Space museum. Early episodes will be screened in black and white. Others will be seen in colour as BBC-1 switches over in November. "Star Trek" was highly praised for its imagination. technical accuracy and attention to detail, a BBC spokesman said yesterday. "Despite a staggering collection of computers, weapons, communication systems and navigating devices, the creators claim there is nothing in the series which is technically impossible," he added. A new exhibition 'Woven Together' opens at ORTUS, 18 August! The artwork in this exhibition was created by artists who attend Make Create, a weekly drop-in group run in the Bethlem Gallery studio. The focus in the sessions is slow working using textiles, often reusing found or donated materials.

I never found out because the one thing stopping me from being a teacher was that I could not remotely conceive of not trying to shag the kids. It seemed to me virtually impossible not to, and I was convinced that I'd be right in there, on day one. Were talking secondary school level here, by the way — and even then I don't think I'd have dabbled much below year ten, as it is now called. I just thought we ought to clear that up early on.
