I vaguely remember the clothing company in town closing its factory when I was very young, but as far as retail… I remember when Child World/Children’s Palace built a store in Paducah that closed not long after in 1992 and became “my” Toys R Us until it went under, it’s a Christian bookstore now

I think back on my time in the Cuba Church of Christ youth group with almost a bemused horror at this point. Lock-ins where we played basketball until the girls were inevitably herded to the basement to sleep while the boys were left upstairs (and I always refused to sleep out of fear.)

I first read There Will Come Soft Rains when I was probably 12, and I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say it absolutely changed my life because it’s so well-written. I know Bradbury was problematic in many ways, but his storytelling helped shape who I am.
