Friends, I’m almost finished Klara and the Sun and I’m not getting the hype? It’s like if iRobot and the matrix and Gatica and a.i (the movie) had a book baby? I dunno, maybe it will all come together in the next 20% and I will eat my words.

When you are the family baker everyone is afraid to bake for you, so this year for my birthday I asked for a home made cake and boy did these turkeys deliver! My tummy hurts from all the love.

In just a few hours I’ll be 40 and I am trying to pretend I’m not deeply freaking out.

Omg my first foray into terra cotta and inlay just came out of the bisque fire and I love them!! I’m gonna fire them just a little hotter than this, and may add a bit of underglaze but I’m keepin’ it simple this time so my prices can be a little closer to affordable. I LOVE the red clay so much!!!

Twice today I have walked in to check on my kiln and it was at 1666 degrees. I’ve decided if it IS an omen…it’s a good one and I won’t hear anything else.

I’m trying to brag but my family doesn’t really care about my poople skills.

I’m listening to what I thought would be a fluffy sports romance, nothing too taxing for my over-taxed brain. But I’m only 55% through and I have been sobbing my eyes out for the last 30%. It has no business being this emotional and relatable, what the hell.

It’s so rare that we get good news, but the federal gov shut down the expansion of Toronto’s Billy Bishop airport after an overwhelmingly negative response from torontonians to their survey. This expansion would have made my home unbearable and the air toxic and killed so much wildlife. I’m SO HAPPY

One of my bestest friends ever baked me an early birthday cake and even though she warned me, and I knew she had a history of bungling baked goods, but how she made it taste like playdoh I will never know. It’s one of the best things that has ever happened to me.

On an AQ day like today maybe making plaster wasn’t my best idea. I was wearing a mask, but I took it off to answer the phone and totally forgot to put it back on.

I just got a quote to fix my dishwasher that was higher than the initial cost of said dishwasher. Please pray for me in these times of hand washing. 😔

It’s less orange out today but the smoke is hanging lower and you can see it like a fog.

This butterfly isn’t supposed to exist in any numbers in my province anymore but I see tons of them all the time now and that’s a nice little chunk of Good News.

A couple new wee birds underglazed today — a couple of American Woodcocks & some Trumpeter Swans — plus I finished off the big flock of assorted warblers!!

I’m having fun with coloured inlay on some terra cotta planters!
