I’ve been trying to get a picture but there are several blue & black flying insects in my lawn. Their wings are clear w/black & a couple looked like they were mating. North Texas area. Does anyone know what these are? The way they fly reminds me of dragonflies but I’m not sure.

NEW: DHS wants to pay private contractors bounties to hunt down people who already left the country, photograph their homes, and demand money. It told them leaving the US would wipe out fines. It was the pitch for self-deporting. Experts tell WIRED this is a pointless escalation of tactics.

DHS Is Hiring Bounty Hunters to Find and Photograph Deported People’s Homes Abroad

Homeland Security told immigrants that leaving the US would wipe out fines it claims they owe. Now it wants private investigators to find them in their home countries and collect.

I need more ppl to be scared. As I've been bitching, I just lost my job & being replaced w/Ai. That's not the scary part. My job incl handling sensitive, private, medical info plus all your personal info up to SSN. It's all being fed to Ai & Ai is not covered under HIPAA. It's really fucking scary.

When I switched over to Bluesky in late 2023, I had 5K followers on X. I never expected to build back up but I’m officially over 4K so that’s cool. And engagement is SO MUCH better here. Twitter was the only social media platform I ever got really into. I’m thankful for an alternative.

Am I the only person who doesn’t watch reality tv? I see certain shows trending often & a ton of people I follow post about them & I don’t get it. I don’t mean this to sound judgmental (my guilty pleasure is fairytale shows so I get liking silly things) but I’ve never understood the appeal. 🤷🏾‍♀️

It’s completely nuts that Trump won by less than 2M votes with near universal media help and worldwide rage at incumbents and the media treated this like a permanent sea change towards MAGA and now less than 2 years later he’s the least popular President in history and there’s no media reckoning

We have a tendency to misremember details when passionate so I wanted to refresh. Summer/2018, Cruz was polling +6. Beto rarely polled higher & for that reason (despite being all in) I was unsure he could win. I’ve felt differently w/Talarico. And he’s been polling well. Over 50% is a big deal.

Maybe even bigger news, y'all -- @ginafortexas.bsky.social is just a point behind Abbott in the gubernatorial race in this same poll! That's HUGE! Abbott, while a repugnant fascist, isn't as nearly compromised as Paxton. Hinojosa CAN WIN THIS - consider throwing her a couple bucks! ginafortexas.com

This piece is from 2023 but I have a personal theory. I think there are 2 parts to the spread of anti immigrant rhetoric in the US. One is a version of divide & conquer in the masses. The other is w/what was once hidden coming to light. The latter threatens wealth gained from US funded atrocities.

As US Considers Reoccupying Haiti, History Shows Occupation Is the Root Problem

The tragedy unfolding in Haiti is a direct result of over a century of U.S. political, military and economic coercion.

truthout.org

“Haiti’s underdevelopment is a direct result of the United States. TPS is the least we could do.” Jefferson placed an embargo, Citibank pushed for what became a violent, 19 yr occupation, a Democratically elected Pres tried to raise min wage & USAID refused & then w/held aid. Then there’s the CIA.

What America Owes Haiti

As TPS for Haitians hangs in the balance, Ruth Jean-Marie writes about America’s relationship with Haiti.

My Haitian friend was just fired from his job. "They said I don't have a legal status now." This is likely happening to hundreds of thousands of people across this country today. Sick.
