In 2004, the humanitarian response to the Indian Ocean tsunami received 13.5 billion dollars. That same year, in Darfur, the appeal for Sudan was only 60% funded and the response took more than a year to scale up.

In 2025, a dangerous trend was confirmed: as humanitarian funding falls, attacks on aid workers keep rising. 700+ security incidents. 1,200+ people affected, most of them national staff. And the perpetrators are increasingly states themselves.

I've dropped all cookies from Salud Everywhere: uninstalled Clarity, replaced Google Analytics with Umami, self-hosted Google Fonts, swapped reCAPTCHA for Cloudflare Turnstile, and replaced embedded YouTube videos with click-to-load previews. I'm happy knowing my site keeps my visitors' data private

terrible. 20 years ago, the internet was full of hobbyist blogs and forums. over time, these have been replaced by paywalled substacks and private discord channels, each a walled garden. google's decision to prioritize AI just makes it less likely people will create free, public info
