Very heavy morning of ICE activity in Chicago. Area rapid responders report a detainment outside another south side Home Depot, plus one person taken near a McDonald's on the southwest side and another taken in the South Loop area. That puts us at at least five reported detainments so far today.

Chicagoland rapid responders are reporting federal agents have been active on Chicago's southwest side this morning. Reports of at least two people taken, possibly more, near a Home Depot on 46th & Western. Immigration agents have targeted that Home Depot, and the area around it, since last year.

Rapid responder alert of detentions on 46th and Western.

I think it's more than reasonable to expect them to address this. If not, we'd be settling, and why the hell should we? It would be a sea change in the ARMYxBTS relationship. This shouldn't be a business-as-usual situation, like if ARMY accepts/normalizes this... that's it. That's the precedent.

"We might ask ourselves, how much of my political energy am I devoting to a particular concern? And what does that attention facilitate? Am I attempting to make a decision... supporting an effort, or strengthening a relationship? Or am I simply riding waves of exhilaration, indignation, or angst?"

I’m seeing a lot of people hang their hopes and all their attention on the midterms. Electoral organizing matters, but full-time spectatorship won’t build the power we need. I wrote about checking in with yourself about where your attention is going and what you’re doing with it.

This is especially baffling to me given so much of the focus historically has been on "breaking into the western market." They're not a small label anymore, they know the demographics of their fanbase, they've fed into the "safe space" narrative for years. They have info and resources to give a shit

But that's why you have a team. Surely they have a team, right? There's a whole string of things that make me feel like they're not being given good advice, but it's impossible to tell and I'm not trying to excuse them. If we don't get a statement idk what I'll do, but assuming we do, then...

I know they've spoken about the suffocating pressure and anxiety of feeling like any tiny moment will be judged, even a detail in the background – and I have a lot of sympathy, I couldn't handle that stress. That's exactly why I think they need better support to help them avoid larger missteps.

... I still don't think that will be enough. I think this needs to be a bigger wakeup call about wider patterns. It shouldn't be up to fans to research and write letters about every issue, we're not getting paid – but *somebody* should be getting paid to research, and they should be doing it better!

My other main thought is: Why don't they have a better research/advisory team? I get that they might have major blind spots – you don't know what you don't know – and they're very busy, not totally fluent in English, don't necessarily have the best research skills (gem*ni isn't the answer)...

And just for the record the “maybe they didn’t know” excuse won’t fly here. If a) Namjoon knew ishowspeed’s government name, and b) he’s a big enough fan to fly to another country for a concert and sing the lyrics, he knows his history. They are not ignorant of western pop culture. Sorry.

I don't know where about we lost the plot, but simply saying "They don't have to be political/the members aren't politicians/let them enjoy their free time" simply doesn't cut it for someone with a platform like theirs in the current social and political climate.

Reminder to check in on your friends. Lots of (extremely valid!!!) rage and disappointment on the timeline but pls take care of yourself, take care of your friends. If you need someone to DM, pls reach out (I think my DMs are open?). Log off if you need to and connect with your support folks 🫂

Reposting this because it's so so important. There's a lot of hurt and disappointment being shared and I hope it leads to some real introspection about what it means to engage in fandom as a whole human and our engagement around our faves as whole humans too.

fandom gets a lot better when you learn to distinguish the difference between person, image, industry, capital, aesthetic, intention, desire, branding, product, and yourself. and like, it's not always easy but that work of disentanglement is so important now and always.

his deplorable actions should be the first thing men think of, not just women. and it is bc we trust bangtan are truly better, kinder men than most are that we call them out. i love them enough to want them to be aware of their privilege and learn from this.

my take is: this isn't a sign they condone abuse, but it does display how abuse is not front of mind for them. i don't think his actions came to mind at all when they decided to go to the concert and THAT is the problem. men like brown should not be allowed a public life.
