Pull up a chair. The kettle's on. I write about history, folklore, romance, esoterica, politics, and whatever else trips my trigger on any given day. Side effects may include curiosity, rabbit holes, & an AuDHD raccoon with questionable navigation skills.

From the opening scene of "Good Bones" a murder mystery set in he south end of the Puget Sound, Washington. Dr Anna Jones and LCDR Brooke Morningstar were married in Canada in 2007 when Anna was 20 weeks pregnant with their IVF-conceived child, Riley.

AI-generated image depicting the owners’ suite of the Mill House Bed & Breakfast on Eld Island, Washington. Brooke Morningstar stands in a white U.S. Navy officer’s Dress White uniform with ribbons and insignia, carrying a black case and holding a cane, while her wife Anna smiles at her from beside the bed. A large text panel reproduces their playful exchange about Anna’s love of seeing Brooke in uniform. The warmly furnished room overlooks the water and evergreen-covered shoreline, with decorative coastal and lighthouse motifs framing the scene.
At the left side of the image is a body of text that reads:

Brooke had donned her Dress Whites, strapped on her sword, adjusted her cover, made certain her medals were properly aligned, picked up the package on the bureau, and, tucking it into a satchel beneath her arm, paused a moment before grasping the cane she rarely needed these days, thinking that with all of the standing and walking she would likely be in need of it sooner rather than later, then headed downstairs to join her waiting wife.

"Damn, Lieutenant Commander Morningstar! I do love a woman in uniform!" her wife greeted her as she came into view.

Slightly blushing, Brooke smiled at Anna and replied, "Yeah, I know, it was the uniform that attracted you in the first place. Except that was a librarian uniform, and you didn't know I was a veteran yet. Let's go. I don't know how long I can stand to be in this thing before I start to rip it off, and that would scandalize the Yacht Club bunch."

"Mmm, do tell. But I may hold you to that later. Are we taking the bus, or just walking, since it's only a few blocks?"

Yeah … so #LeftCoastCrime2026 didn’t manifest in my budget and Good Bones did not get completed because of a major delay with Unseen, the first book in the historical fiction trilogy.

Tu es Foutu and After the Storm - a duology, forthcoming 2026. Good Bones, the first Eld Island Mystery, hoping for 2026., maybe in time for #LeftCoastCrime2026, if I am very lucky. I't has been a productive year on many levels, despite the setbacks. #Booksky #writing #queerromance #queercrime

41k words into the rebuild. Prologue, Epilogue, & first 3 chapters complete. Sadly, those are the easy ones. Not much changed from the early versions of those. No one to blame but myself… well, & Loki. It’s always Loki’s fault. Just ask Thor. He’ll confirm. 🤭 Hush, Loki. You know I love you. 1/2

Please stop saying TACO. We’re talking about an ungodly number of people who could die or maimed. It’s not time for cutesy little internet slang. We have to get away from this bizarre desensitization.

An interesting thread. I know several trans men and women who have struggled with accessing treatment, and coercion to deny their identity, but none who actually regret transitioning. Most say it was the best decision they ever made. Almost all say they are alive today because they did.

Sarah Vaci is a "gender critical" artist who set out 4 years ago this month to create 100 portraits of "female detransitioners." To date, worldwide, she hasn't even found 100 to take part in her project, and at her current rate, it will take her 10 to 15 years to finish. Why is this important? 1/

Seriously panicking. Somehow the final version of the novel that needs to go to Ingram by next week is missing. I am terrified that during the recent two weeks of insomnia and mental fog that in cleaning up the working and draft files I have deleted everything. #Unseen #booksky 1/2
