Exactly. You didn't know and instead of taking 2 seconds to find out, you couldn't wait to jump in and correct what you saw as a mistake. This isn't about the UK or US, it's about you needing to insert your supposed expertise into a conversation that hadn't asked for it and didn't require it.
I was gonna start watching a korean drama the other day, but was immediately icked out when on the first minutes of the first episode a guy who had already graduated high school was asking a high school girl to be his girlfriend And the drama treated that as normal and acceptable
