I write things that explain other things for USA TODAY NETWORK in Florida. I also take pictures, mostly for me. My opinions are my own and I only agree with about half of them. He/him.

Walking out of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” Holy hell. The last one delighted me too much to be knocked off the top spot, but this Spider-Man is the most New York yet. Not as bright as the others, grungy in the right ways. Excellent performances by everyone, amazing fight scenes, humor and heart.

LiveBlog: Florida is executing two men today, James Duckett and Dominick Occhicone. This is the first time Florida has scheduled two people on the same day since 1962. You can follow the updates here.

Dreamt I worked at Costco and they had an employee program where you suggest themed merch and sales. I wanted to see what it would look like if Daredevil’s Wilson Fisk was beloved. I was delighted when Costco produced tons of merch featuring a cheery-yet-menacing bald fat guy in a white suit.

Got my solitaire streak past a year and then I intentionally let it drop because it had long since turned into a need to keep the streak rather than enjoying the game. It was still surprisingly difficult to let it go. It made my brain twitch.

Teresa: I think I got a spider bite. Me: Don’t die, please. Teres: I feel ok. Me: Maybe you’ll get super powers! Teres: Cool! Wait, no. Then I’d have responsibility. I hear they go together. Me: Is it compulsory? Teres: Well, the guy that says it died, so I probably don’t have to listen.

Railroad companies have started applying white and reflective paints to railroad tracks to reduce the amount of sunlight they absorb. The rails were never designed to operate under the increased temperature and duration of the climate crisis, and risk derailing unless the heat is reduced.

Alex Norris of the delightful blobby “Oh no” comics had spent a miserable few years fighting a company trying to steal their IP. Recently they offered comics based on 5-word descriptions, to fund the legal battle. I sent in “dancing sexy couple confused dog.” Just got this in the mail.

A line drawing of two blobby, apparently naked people dancing while a nearby dog thinks “oh no.”

My healthy eating plans were temporarily derailed this morning when I remembered we had rolls left over from a celebratory Texas Roadhouse dinner which could be used for bacon egg and cheese sammiches. But I also had an orange, so that balanced everything out, probably. That's just science.

Woke from a dream where Teresa and I were staying at an old ski lodge and I had left my room in the morning barefoot in shorts and a t-shirt and was pleasantly chatting with the owners in knee deep snow. I think the Florida heat is getting to me.

The new Roku TV Home Screen finally rolled out to me. My screen, which for ages was mercifully free of most of the crap other streaming services have, loaded ‘em up. On the left, what it was. On the right, what it is now. Fortunately you can, at least for now, hide it all in Settings. So I did.

Roku’s former home screen. Big app icons, one easily ignored ad to the left, three suggested things on top (just added recently). New Roku TV Home Screen. More suggested stuff on top, a Quick Access list of the 8 apps I use most often, in alphabetical order (not the order of must use, can’t move them), more suggestions underneath, and finally my full list of apps. Big push for Live TV, which I don’t use.

Apple, please add an option for me to hang up with an audible slam. I fear that others on the phone may not appreciate how fully and completely I am hanging up on them. It should consist of the traditional slamming noise, including the satisfying sound of a bell rattling inside from the force.
