My New Year’s resolution is to read more books, eat more scones, and use more Oxford commas.
Am I the only one who gets a real kick out of citation chains? Reading people's writing and footnotes, and making assessments and notes, finding the sources in the footnotes and reading them yourself, and making more notes? I...love it?

It’s a tale as old as time in THE HOUNDING, my Day 19 and final #Libfaves25 pick. Man thinks girl should smile more. Girl ignores man. Man accuses girl and her sisters of witchcraft. This book was a whole vibe and I enjoyed it start to finish.
THE NAMES, my #LibFaves25 Day 9 pick, wrecked me. It was incredible how one choice leads to another and another… What is so remarkable about this story is that it has the same threads, but they are woven together differently with possible narrative.
Mỹ Documents (MY DOCUMENTS) is my #LibFaves25 Day 8 pick because I read it months ago and am still thinking about it. Unfortunately it seems to have become even more timely.
Day 7 of #LibFaves25 goes to the book I couldn’t wait to get my hands on—TO KILL A BADGER. I love this series & these characters. Whenever I want an escape, the MacKilligan sisters, their friends, & their awful father who just won’t die are there to make me laugh.
BRING THE HOUSE DOWN is my Day 6 #LibFaves25 pick. When a nepo baby critic gives your show one star & sleeps with you before you find out, the only appropriate response is to redo your show to take him down & send his colleague into a spiral questioning power in art, misogyny, & who gets to be mad.
Day 5 of #LibFaves25 is a reminder to never judge a book by its cover because wow if there is anything I hate, loathe, despise, and abominate, it’s the cover of HEART THE LOVER. Honestly still annoyed with how I devoured this achingly perfect read in one day because ugh that cover.
Buckle up, buttercup, because SKY DADDY is my #LibFaves25 Day 4 pick. I was warned and still was not prepared for this book. The premise may not be for everyone (definitely shelve it if you’re flying anytime soon), but the way Kate Folk draws you into and tells this unique story is incredible.
#LibFaves25 Day 3 goes to SO FAR GONE. I picked up this one because I heard it described as a modern day True Grit. It is, and so much more because John Wayne would never, and I mean that in most complimentary way to Rhys Kinnick.
Day 2 of #LibFaves25 is FRIENDS OF THE MUSEUM. This minute by minute accounting of 24 hours of staff-created calamity up to and including a museum’s gala is my favorite kind of messy.
Day 1 of #LibFaves25 goes to MUTUAL INTEREST, the book Libby reclaimed before I could finish that I immediately turned around and bought because I had to keep reading. Succession but make it queer and Gilded Age with my favorite narrative voice possibly ever.
And here I thought it wasn’t possible for me to love the em dash more

Just want to correct a common error I'm seeing people making: St. Patrick's Day is not the only holiday where it is customary to blast Dropkick Murphys. Labor Day is also an appropriate holiday to blast Dropkick Murphys.
I would argue that Racetrack claimed it first, but will also accept this as a correct answer along with Boots & Kid Blink #pairofnewshoeswithmatchinglaces

Rebecca Fishbein@bfishbfish.bsky.social · 2y agoApparently folks think that writing that contains an em dash is a dead giveaway that it's from ChatGPT, which I guess is a sign that most people have never read anything in their lives.
This past year I’ve gotten involved with the Friends group for my local library & have attended town council meetings to advocate for funding. It’s horrifying how many people have no idea how publishers are bleeding library budgets dry with ebooks—instead they blame the library.

That's $1620 for 27 copies of 1 book. That is fucking ridiculous and I would like to buy 0 copies. I'm contemplating it.

David Shiffman, Ph.D. 🦈@whysharksmatter.bsky.social · 2y agoYou were all having a good day and I am here to ruin it: All of the birds given as gifts in “12 days of Christmas” are edible birds, and I am not sure why so many of you believe they were all intended to be kept as pets for years after receipt.
So many layers to familial legacy, cultural legacy, and the fact that the sisterly bond is a complicated one.
Never had any desire to attend the Thanksgiving Day Parade, but my favorite Thanksgiving thing remains seeing the balloons get inflated the night before.
