A lot of people talk about Lynch’s work as being surreal. But honestly, I think that’s it’s opposite. I think his work tapped into a very true understanding of reality that is often difficult to contemplate. The horror and the beauty almost vibrating between one and the other.
Honor his memory by doing something strange, unraveling a riddle within yourself, and working on your favorite projects.
David Lynch gave us the language we needed to better articulate the indescribable strangeness of our shared reality. “Lynchian” is so overused because it’s a viscerally understandable word without any known synonyms. I can’t imagine a more beautiful artistic legacy than that.

Reading Robert Aickman stories:
Just watched The Day of the Jackal (1973) and it rules. Pretty much a perfect spy movie, like a cup of tea that stays hot for two and a half hours.
Commissioned illustration—this one was for a historical fiction graphic novel (set in 1894 New Mexico) about a naturalist/expert wolf hunter tasked with killing a legendary wolf named Lobo.
