I enjoyed The Odyssey (2026) but I have one historical nitpick. The phrase “Jiminy Christmas” is a minced oath for “Jesus Christ”. As the story is set around 1200 B.C. it is unlikely that Odysseus would have said the phrase even once, let alone the dozens of times he says it in the film
Put another way, the entire adult userbase is going to have to upload their IDs to sketchy third-party companies and link their identities to their online activity to stop a few dozen kids from accessing a platform that is mainly left-leaning news and commentary. What problem is this solving?

If this materialises, the Irish government will be outflanked on the issue of illegal Israeli settlements by the same UK government that did reconnaissance flights for the IDF and charges people as terrorists for verbal expressions of solidarity with Palestine

I attended the festival and screenings both as a Director and this year, as a representative of The Human Made mark (which I won't tag due to how sensitive this post may be), a company where we approve purely human made films that have used no AI. So this was awkward to see at the end of the screenings, a film that straight away screamed of AI the moment the first shot appeared. I had my senses tingling there'd be a reaction, as I too had a strong negative one whilst viewing the film. Once the audience started getting up to leave, I actually ran down to see the director Hisko Hulsing due to my role at the festival this year, to ask about how the film was made and to really understand why it was made with AI. Nine years, a plethora of around 70-80 oil paintings and it utilised AI trained on the paintings applied to 3D models. However, the frame blending looked very much like AI feathering, and so felt in the moment like it heavily utilised AI. (I do thank the Director for talking to me openly about the process in those explosive moments after the screening however, it was a charged atmosphere and quite chaotic, and I was wearing my Human Made shirt!). I understood the directors intentions, but I was surprised annecy decided to screen it altogether. A similar issue took place at the end of one of the Grad screenings for a 3D film. It felt intentional that annecy placed these films at the end of the screenings, and one has to wonder, if you're aware that there is going to be such strong backlash, why screen the films? Or how about give it a different category or a grouping? Audiences seem tired of wondering if what they're seeing is AI or not, and those moments felt to put it bluntly, disappointing. 1/ This company’s models were trained on web scraped datasets (like LAION) and their founders are ex-Stability AI employees who engage in the same thieving practices that led artists like myself to sue Stability. GenAi companies NEED big names to sanitize their exploitation and crippling PR.
