We heard you. We agree. In light of recent developments in physical media, GitHub is proud to announce that you can now obtain your public repo on CD-ROM. Keep it. Lend it to friends. Pass it on to your children. Your code is physically yours, forever. Until you lose it, let's be real. gh.io/cd
As someone who normally lives in the backend, I’m enjoying @svelte.dev quite a bit, especially the way routing works. 🙌

Ford has rehired hundreds of senior engineers after replacing them with AI backfired and has cost the company billions of dollars. AI adoption is blamed for Ford being the most recalled automaker in the U.S. with 51 recalls covering over 11 million vehicles in the first half of 2026 alone.
I genuinely think that most of my snack choices are me just looking for vessels for chamoy and tajin.

Secrets, Spells, and Shopkeepers
It’s been a productive week of development and we’ve reached a few milestones that are helping the world feel more like a MUD. One area key to our design goal is exploration. We recently implemented s...

I'm currently #coding a #mud and am thinking about secret doors. I want both the kind that can be found by manipulating the environment ("pull sconce" or "push bookshelf") but also the ones like a passage hidden behind a waterfall. Supporting both will be a fun challenge. #indiegames #oldschoolgames
Having mostly done web app programming and scripting, it's been fun working on my current project where I get to deal with multithreading, deadlocks, etc.

I gave Jekyll a first serious shake recently and found I really like it. I want to compare with Hugo, too, but may move my blog over that way. Anyone have suggestions for exporting a Ghost blog to Markdown suitable for either of these?
So, haven't needed to do it in a while, but need to do it now: what are people using to build container images in places where docker isn't available (e.g. CI runners on #K8s) now that Kaniko is archived?

Read a post where an #sre discovered a recent incident had the same root cause as an earlier incident. Someone chimed in that they didn't have the same root cause: the root cause of the second incident was not prioritizing the fix from the first incident. #postmortem items need due dates!
I don't post so often, these days, but this made my day. Versioned rollback is finally a thing in k8s. cloud.google.com/blog/product...

My son and I enjoyed reading the first two books together. He leaves for college next year, I’ll have to send him a copy while he’s there.
The outline for my third novel, Fighter, is done. 33 chapters have already been written, 17 chapters yet to be started, 13 chapters are in progress.
I've been playing with Java over the past week. After years of semi-colonless languages, it feels a little strange, but there are parts of it I am really enjoying. Having a solid IDE which reminds me of features which I've forgotten--or which have been introduced between Java 8 and now--is nice.
Watching The Blob (1988) with my son (horror movies every Thursday in October). There are some surprisingly good effects in this for a late 80s film.
