I was recently a Director at AWS. My org owned EventBridge, Step Functions, SWF, and a few other things that keep the machine moving but which you won’t have heard of. Super interested in Serverless, integration, and developer experience.

I worked on a few fairly prominent efforts in open source (Istio, OpenAPI), but I think of all of them, it’s gRPC that I think has the coolest story. Pull up a chair and set for a spell (any inaccuracies in what follows are 100% my fault for having a bad memory!).

The problem with most machine-based random number generators is that they’re not TRULY random, so if you need genuine randomness it is sometimes necessary to link your code to an external random process like a physical noise source or the current rate of US tariffs on a given country.

Real-time push notifications can be accomplished using different approaches but using the services mentioned in the video make it quite easy. Tools like Step Functions, Eventbridge, and more are involved. (2/2)

Finally deleted Twitter (I refuse to use the new name) from my phone. I’d stopped paying attention in general, but was still finding my way over there once in a while. Really doesn’t seem to be any good reason to anymore though.

New Year’s Resolution: I will take 2 seconds to unsubscribe to crap my Gmail address (one many others confuse for their own) gets subscribed to, instead of wasting time deleting spam and being grumpy all year.

Huge launch! EventBridge and Step Functions can now invoke APIs deployed inside your VPCs. Building on the VPC Resources over PrivateLink that also went live today. Awesome partnership with these teams to make this happen! Excited for how it will simplify modernization!

Interesting. I avoided Twitter like the plague before I started working at AWS, then joined to connect with the community. 6 years on, I have an illustrious 176 followers. 3 weeks after things restarted here, I have more. Still small time for sure, but it’s an encouraging sign of growing community.
