I feel like there is no horror movie presence on Bluesky, so I will say what needs to be said. Go see Obsession. Even if you are not a horror movie fan, it is legitimately just one of the best movies I have seen in a very long time. It's incredibly well acted and executed, an instant classic.

I gotta say that CIHR needs to get its shit together when it comes to postdoc grant reviews. One of my postdocs didn’t receive an award this year because one reviewer scored her down as she didn’t explain the randomization and exclusion criteria for her study. It’s a study done in mice. Seriously. 😐

With the rumblings around CIHR wanting to move to one cycle per year not going away, in consultation with a diverse stakeholder group, we have put together a letter for CIHR leadership. Please consider signing this letter and share/RT: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F... @cannabrain.bsky.social

13% success rates at #CIHR, is a really 87% fail rate for>4000 scientists. At a time when 🇨🇦 is investing millions to recruit more scientist into a broken funding environment. 🇨🇦, U need a strong science foundation 2 attract success. #CIHR, fix your science foundation, it is eroding in real time

I am questioning this new admin assistant I hired. She has no eyes, a poor grasp of the English language and thinks it’s appropriate to just spend her day napping or eating. If she wasn’t so adorable I would have to let her go.

Tis the season to indulge 🍗🥧🍷 So what better time to have our new lab paper on cannabis-induced munchies published in PNAS but on Christmas Eve! A 'joint' effort with @ryanmcpickle.bsky.social, showing that cannabis enhances the rewarding value of food. Dig in! www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

With only a few days to Christmas, some people (especially @nicoleacrowley.bsky.social) may want to watch some holiday friendly horror movies, so this is my first run at a horror movie countdown list in this space. Here are top 10 Christmas horror movies

New lab paper drop, this one has been a long time coming! Driven by Rob Aukema (now a postdoc with Kerry Ressler) this paper in Science Advances answered the lingering question of what role the amygdala plays in stress-induced neuroendocrine responses. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

A network of basolateral amygdala projection neurons contributes to stress-induced activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis

A network of basolateral amygdala neurons, but not singular projections, contributes to the neuroendocrine response to stress.
