This speedrun rekindled my interest in Balatro, and has me actually thinking about… MATH?! Quite possibly my favorite GDQ run of all time, which is saying a whole hell of a lot. I just re-watched it this weekend with a similar level of admiration and disbelief, even though I knew how it ended.

I'm incredibly privileged in that I cannot be laid off, but this relentless dismantling of my industry by irresponsible executives is wearing me down. Most of my friends in game dev have lost their jobs in the last couple of years. So many lives upended and so much institutional knowledge lost.

I don’t have enough patience to collect and follow recipes so I’ve trained myself to just toss ingredients and seasonings together for relatively tasty and round meals. The problem is that if I make something really good I have no idea how I made it and chances are high I’ll never eat it again.

Godot: - is free & yours to modify - isn’t run by shareholders with a different agenda - doesn’t support genAI - is easy to transition to - is very capable - has its own quirks - exports to desktop & mobile, and to console through 3rd party services (for now) lmk if you need help transition to it

I just realized it’s been 10 years since I left the B2B interactive studio I co-founded. I left for a lot of reasons, but mostly so I could make games full time. I’d been making games as a hobby or for clients for 10 years prior to that, but uh… happy 10 full-time years in the industry to me. Wow.
