There are lots of barely-promoted and/or undistributed domestic and foreign films out there that are just as worthy of attention as the ones that win awards at big festivals, get a distro deal & are widely covered. What sites or critics specialize in such movies? I want to expand my field of vision.

This would be another big blow for UK science. It's also a threat to a #WorldHeritage site which was only listed by the UK in 2019 after nearly a decade of work by scientists, advocates & government. The results are in: 0/4 of the recent Tales Remasters/Ports have credited the English localizers who worked on them. This has been an ongoing issue since 2014, when Tales games suddenly stopped crediting English localizers in both remasters and new entries. #TranslatorsintheCredits (1/8)

some of us are deaf my pref: captioned in the original lang, w/ option to get subtitles in another lang. and bc i value access, another option to pick dubbing in lang of choice don’t force anyone into a mode they don’t want i’m a lip reader so if that doesn’t match, i have a terrible time with it

It makes me boggle that distributors still haven't worked this out. It's been decades since accessibility subtitles were introduced and distributors are still trying to skimp by not producing both full subtitles and partial subtitles for multilingual films :>( #opinionsaboutsubtitles

What I do really hate though is a problem I’m seeing lately w/ AppleTV shows in multiple languages where you can’t have both the original audio and subtitles ONLY for the non-English parts. This used to just work but it doesn‘t anymore. I can’t stand English subtitles on English scenes.

A useful reminder that *two* subtitle files should be available for films in a foreign language: one traditional subtitle file and a second file which matches the dubbing script #opinionsaboutsubtitles

I have difficulty understanding a lot of dialogue (partly bad hearing, partly bad mixing, partly unfamiliar accents), so I watch most content with subtitles on which is easier than rewinding 3-4 times to try and understand what was said. OTOH, if the subs and dub don't match I pick subs hands down.

I will be hosting the American Manga Awards this year at the Japan Society of New York during @animenyc.bsky.social These awards are so important, giving much-needed recognition to translators and letterers whose skills and art bring you manga in English. I hope they continue to grow.
