Demake86 is a tiny, unforgiving, and legally-distinct homage to the original 1986 Metroid, developed over two years using absolutely no AI. Happy 40th, Samus! Play Demake86 for free in your browser: opossumcarrion.itch.io/demake86 #metroidvania #indiegaming #godot #gaming #noai #samus #metroid

To anyone who needs to get in contact with me, heads up that I will be off the internet for most of August 7th through August 10th :)
Legally Distinct Action Adventure Platforming Game set on a METEOROID, or Demake86, will be delayed upon learning Silksong will be released tomorrow. (not to be confused with #metroid. this is absolutely not a fangame)
My free and legally-distinct fangame / homage / remake of the original NES Metroid is about to release on August 6th! DEMAKE86 is a challenging adventure confined to an 8^6 pixel meteoroid, which can beat in one sitting. More details here: carrion.0xpossum.dev/demake86/ #metroidvania #gamedev
Godot is incredible, as is Itch. I'm using Godot's CLI to do builds and Itch.io's butler ( itch.io/docs/butler/ ) to push them. I wrote two small scripts, I run them, and BAM! Fresh builds hit Itch's servers. Awesome B)
#Godot tip for linking one node to another across the tree. An `@export var linked_name: Node2D` will let you link any instance of the scene to any other instance of a scene in your game. Maybe this is obvious, maybe this is hacky, but this has been super useful for me!
Well, it finally happened! After 9 years of Unity dominance, Godot was the most used game engine for GMTK Game Jam 2026 submissions. 🤖 Godot - 47% 🎮 Unity - 34% 🛠️GameMaker - 5% 🚀 Unreal Engine - 3% ✨ Other - 11%
All the Shikigami now have idle and attack animations! They feel so much more alive compared to their old static versions 👀 👺 They also wear masks when you first encounter them You’ll have to defeat them to reveal their face and true nature! #JRPG #Roguelike #Godot #DragonQuest #IndieDev #Pokemon
In Metroid, every enemy you kill explodes into gooey giblets. Prime shows this well by having that gore accumulate on her visor before washing away. I think a 2D Metroid could do well to have that accumulate over time, with Samus' armor is coated in multicolored layers of fresh and dry alien blood.
I think Godot is very good for general use but its weakest points is the friction for typical use cases. This should be a two (or three) node set up to achieve like in Blender, I think. Similar thing with TileMaps
An old ~2021 screenshot of Demake86, before I restarted the dev work :^) #gamedev I forgot I was working on it back then...
Dictionaries should try to match the emotional temper of a word they define. "Ineluctable" doesn't just mean "unavoidable". Something ineluctable is something impending for which no amount of struggling can prevent. And yet, there is a sense that one can't help but struggle anyways.
A couple draft #blender renders for PENUMBRA // FANTHOLOGY. These are also all 100% 3D, no 2D compositing or tricks, latest draft first. The second image contains my attempt to replicate the glitch you see in the third and fourth.
A Blender render for the Interrobang's PENUMBRA // FANTHOLOGY track in the latest Cool and New Music Team album: coolandnewwebcomic.bandcamp.com/track/penumb... I've been a fan of this collective for the past decade and it's an honor to get to make a serious no-jokes album art this time around :)
Really frustrating experiences. I'm anti-AI, but other anti-AI people are constantly attacking human artists posting human-made art, and being huge assholes about it. You shouldn't be an asshole even when you're right about something, but that's another thing
FX on Instagram uploaded this proof that the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia #IASIP poster is not AI generated. You can see it's composited in 2D with rendered 3D assets. Studio is GoodFake Creative goodfake.com which the founder Alex Haldi describes as "not the best name choice in hindsight"
This is clearly composited in 2D with rendered 3D assets. It has an airbrushed look with a dof-blur of the background and "meltiness" as an artifact of sculpting, but it's consistent in ways AI generation can't do (yet, at least). The lighting on the 3D models should be enough to convince you
The new #IASIP promo art is not AI generated, and it doesn't look AI generated at all. People who are calling it AI generated don't have an eye for it and would have been calling every promo art since Season 13 AI.

In addition to "Making Videogames", I also do math and take drugs, like coffee. Estimating how much caffeine is in your body requires some maths from pharmacokinetics, so I am re-assessing my caffeine intake and showing my work here
I think the next Metroid game should double down and put green energy everywhere, but this time, it serves no function and is not acknowledged. The game doesn't even track how much you pick it up
An undocumented Godot 4.7 change: You can no longer reliably modify a Line2D points directly, you must use the method. E.g. $Line2D.points[1] = Vector2(6, 7) becomes $Line2D.set_point_position(1, Vector2(6,7))
!! !!!! A new title, "Metroid: Ravenous", has been leaked for release 2026 #Metroid6 #MetroidRavenous
For years we have been overwhelmed by the volume of code contributions we have to review, especially from new contributors. AI has made the problem much worse. That's why we are taking steps to reduce the burden on maintainers while still welcoming new contributors: godotengine.org/article/cont...
Changes to our Contribution Policies – Godot Engine
Godot is growing fast, so here is how we are dealing with the huge increase in contributions.

If I were Microsoft I would rename "Minecraft" to "Hamlet" so as to cause immediate and catastrophic damage to the widely-accepted style norm of not providing bibliographic references to very famous works
Hi @sjgames.com, I played Munchkin for the first time two weeks ago and had a blast! I hope this is not unwelcome, but your DMS are closed and I wanted to let you know your Bluesky links are outdated at munchkin.game and www.backerkit.com/c/projects/s... so I had to go digging a bit to follow :-)
