Leonard Pierce@leonardpierce.bsky.social · 5mo agoAdding to this thread: it’s a common mistake (I’ve made it myself, many times) to think of the motivations of the capitalist elites as essentially mercantilist: that is, that they are largely still motivated *entirely* by profit and loss, selling product, etc. This has not been true for a while.

I will note that, as others have, that there is a stark, stark contrast in the ages and assets of delay supporters and delay opponents. Those who want more ways to appeal and delay housing are overwhelmingly older house owners; those who want housing are younger renters.

This talk was great. A state bank in WA could bring many benefits - cost savings, reduced interest rates, the ability to invest public deposits toward shared goals, & return profits to the public purse. There is tremendous power in owning our own bank. Hope legislators find the courage to do it.

He's an amazing educator and he supports Rent Stabilization. Way better than his opponent who seems to hate funding schools but loves rent increases.
Seattle is essentially a deep blue one-party town, so our political poles have mutated in an interesting way. We now have 2 parties: The "Cities Are Good, Actually, and We Can Have Nice Things" Party and the "Cities Are Bad, Actually and We Can't Afford Nice Things (Unless It's for the Cops)" Party
