This morning, I convened a roundtable discussion in Lisle with AARP, Age Options, AgeGuide, LeadingAge, DuPage Senior Citizens Council, Advocate Health, Lurie Children’s Hospital, and local advocates to mark the 61st anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid.

Today, I met with the physicians and staff at West Suburban Women's Health to discuss the challenges facing independent women's healthcare practices and what it will take to ensure patients continue to have access to high-quality care.

This week, as our nation recognizes 61 years of Medicaid, the state of healthcare is moving in the wrong direction. As we recognize Medicaid's legacy, we should work to protect and strengthen it, not gut it. I'll keep fighting to ensure every family can access affordable, quality healthcare.

It was great to visit the Children's Museum in Oak Lawn and meet with Executive Director Adam Woodworth to learn more about the museum's expanding programs. We also discussed the importance of sustained federal support for museums and ways to provide hands-on learning experiences for children.
