The Catbird for Bluesky client app now has experimental end to end encrypted group chats. Built using AT Protocol primitives, all you need is to log into Catbird with your Bluesky account. Chat with friends, share images and posts, find your community again. Now available for testing:

Just a quick update—you can now set your pronouns in Catbird! These are a part of your Bluesky profile record and will be visible across all clients that support the field.

Sorry for the trouble everyone. A working build has been pushed to TestFlight. You’ll have to log in again, but should have longer sessions from now on.

Hoping this next update is good. I’ve tried to fix a number of things with the post composer, account switching, crashing. It feels much faster and smoother. I’m also making positive progress on the MLS group chats, they will probably make it in with an experimental warning.

I’ve been a bit quiet on this account for a while, just like to thank people still using it and sticking around. I appreciate all the help and feedback. I tried to do some large-scale refactoring lately, and I’m just tightening things up. I’ve hopefully improved a number of things…

It seems bluesky made breaking changes to their response for their oauth authorization server; the introspection_endpoint in the response json has been removed. Heron is going to be broken on sign in and refresh token flows till a new version of the app can be approved 😞

Some things hopefully coming soon to Catbird: - timeline more like the official app - local on-device drafts - feed interactions (show more or less like this) on supported feeds - better list handling; pinned lists will display properly as feeds! - push notifications will filter moderation lists

If anyone is having issues signing in after a while, there seems to be a bug on reauthenticating stale sessions that I need to fix; in the meantime, if you’re able to access the Account Switcher you can delete the account (by swiping) and try signing in again. That should work, if not let me know!

Seems to be back up, hoping the server doesn’t die again. Sorry for the flakiness there

after some technical difficulties the improved Mac version should be available on TestFlight now. Notification server seems to be down though and I am investigating

Notification server was dead... should be back up now. You can adjust notification preferences in settings, and your user post notification/activity subscriptions should start coming through!

Just pushed out an update! For devices with Apple Intelligence turned on, trending topics now include a short summary of the topic based on posts in the feed!

Notification server has been down most of the day, working on upgrading it to support post notifications. Should hopefully have it back up tomorrow with a new build of the app with some bugs fixed. Thanks to everyone for sticking around!

New update is out! Fixes a number of bugs and crashes. Hopefully music should keep playing even if you scroll past a video. Bluesky’s upcoming Bookmarks have been added too! You can view them by tapping the button at the bottom of the feed drawer. Still buggy but getting better!
