Congrats on “opening” a strait that was open six weeks ago, and all it cost was at least 13 dead service members, thousands of dead Iranian civilians, tens of billions in taxpayer dollars, our loss in global standing, and the Iranian regime’s increase in power. Phenomenal work.

The fuel protests in Ireland are a Trojan Horse that aim to bring fascism to Ireland. We are witnessing the birth of an Irish version MAGA. The more you look, the more obvious it is that many of the key spokesmen (and they are all men) are dangerous anti-immigrant far right agitators.Wake up.

Currently reading Grand Delusion: The Rise and Fall of American Ambition in the Middle East by Steven Simon and this passage references the MV Bridgeton, escorted by the US navy at the time, hitting an Iranian mine during the Iran-Iraq war in 1987. History does not repeat itself but it does rhyme

The notable aspect of this event was the navy's failure to anticipate the problem of mines. There were no mines weeper ships in the Gulf, and very few in the navy's possession worldwide. Minesweeping in the an- ticipated great war with the Soviet Union was supposed to be carried out by lesser NATO allies incapable of deploying big ships but with the re- sources and organizational ability to handle more quotidian tasks with correspondingly modest equipment. Once the navy understood that mines would be Iran's weapon of choice against Kuwaiti tankers, it scrambled to find the tools necessary to do the job, such as minesweeping surface vessels and Sea Stallion helicopters as well as the specialized sensors and mechanical devices to detect under water mines and destroy them.

Just read the Irish Times article on the new @rteradio1.bsky.social schedule Can the powers that be not see further than endless sports programmes at the weekends and now during the week. Where's art, culture, thought, history, comedy theatre, drama, non mainstream music, enquiry, and imagination

This is so indefensibly insane: Speaker Johnson is refusing to seat Congresswoman-elect Adelita Grijalva because she'll be the 218th vote to release the Epstein files. Johnson swore in Rep Walkinshaw (VA) w/in 24 hours. Johnson is abandoning his job to instead protect a convicted child sex predator

Trump: People were taken out of the spa, hired by Epstein… I told him we don’t want you taking our people, whether it’s spa or not spa. He did it again, I said out of here. Reporter: Was one of the stolen people Virginia Giuffre? Trump: I think so. He stole her.

Across East Anglia, and the country at large, the Wider Butterfly Survey is seeking volunteers to help determine how acute butterfly decline is. As part of Insect Week, might this be something you could volunteer for? Surveys in July & August - a wonderful opportunity for some nature respite.

The wider countryside butterfly survey – can you help?

Love butterflies? Help science & nature by joining the Wider Countryside Butterfly Survey (WCBS) – just two to four summer walks can make a difference!
