Mind you their offices get calls about all kinds of things from immigration policy to potholes. Just because Bluesky keeps screaming about it on your feed doesn't mean they know about it. Everyone has to pitch in for it to actually make a blip on the radar!
I like to ask them if they're aware of the laws in question to see if it's on their radar. There's been times where the office rep HAS heard of laws like KOSA, but sometimes they respond as though it's the first time they heard about in. Which is where YOU come in.
I know calling reps is very nerve racking. You're not sure what's the right thing to say, and tbh having a script thrown at me makes things just as nerve racking. I called today, and I figured I'd write up a transcript of how my call went down. Hopefully it helps demystify the process
You need to call your reps and demand that they OPPOSE: -the KIDS Act -KOSA -the Screen Act -Sammy's Law -the App Store Accountability Act And additionally, oppose: -reforming/sunsetting Section 230 -online age verification/ID laws www.congress.gov/members/find...
It's catching up to me just how real this internet bill situation is and just how close we are to the internet falling apart. It's literally making me sick to my stomach with anxiety. If they pass, we will survive and we will find each other, but reality as I know it would have to fall apart first.
Please continue to contact your senators and demand they oppose KOSA and the KIDS Act. Every vote torn away from this bill matters www.congress.gov/members/find...

The KIDS Act is facing serious headwinds in the Senate, with Marsha Blackburn getting pushback from both Cruz and the White House on what should be in the bill, and what can pass. — via @benbrodydc.bsky.social. Cruz says he'll vote for it, but doesn't believe it has the votes.
The SCREEN act is being voted on in the Commerce Committee tomorrow. This is a dangerous bill could enact ID-checking requirements across the internet, even outside of the United States. Call and/or send emails!! www.defendonlineprivacy.com/screen/

"The camera zooms out to show his full body, he’s completely naked and chained up by his arms. His dong is completely visible for all to see. He’s standing on a platform of brimstone. Surrounding him is flames and a red sky. Beavis is in hell."

I have good news for everyone. Even if every age verification bill passes and the internet fractures apart, this would not be the end of queer community. We have a long history of thriving against criminalization and censorship. Things would change, but it wouldn't end.
What can you do? CALL. WRITE. SCREAM. The bill is up for a vote THIS WEDNESDAY. Call your Senator. Dem. Republican. Whomever. Right now, it's a solid R bill, but they're looking for Dems to take it across the finish line. Let them know how badly it stinks. www.defendonlineprivacy.com/screen/

The SCREEN Act is not just another age-verification bill — it goes much further than anything passed at the state-level or in other countries. 1. The bill doesn't just target porn sites. It goes after *any* site that allows material "harmful" to minors. You'd have to scan your face to use Google.

I heard you TF Enthusiasts love bad ending scenarios. How's this one?
It's such an uphill battle to explain to people that age verification is a right-wing effort to criminalize and censor queer voices, but then the right will just flat out state, "We're using age verification to criminalize queer people."
The Missouri Attorney General is threatening librarians with arrest over an LGBTQ+ story hour for kids, suggesting that a picture book about gay dinosaur dads is "pornography." The Secretary of State says he'll pull funding if the event happens, citing the state's new age verification law.
