I wrote to Miatta Fahnbulleh to urge her to publish a Fossil Fuel Transition Roadmap ahead of COP31 in November. Ending all new licenses & publishing a clear roadmap will show that the UK is not just calling for a global transition, but delivering one.

The post is a graphic. At the top, white text on a light green background says:

"The Government must publish a fossil fuel transition roadmap before COP31"

The rest of the image shows the top of a letter to Miatta Fahnbulleh.

Dear Secretary of State,

RE: Securing a fossil fuel transition roadmap for the UK

I am writing on behalf of the Green Party of England and Wales to urge your department to move swiftly to publish a comprehensive fossil fuel transition roadmap for the UK ahead of COP31 in November." The post is a text box on a dark green background. In the box is a parliamentary paper-style letter extract that reads:

"The impacts of the climate and nature emergency are escalating at a terrifyingly dangerous rate, as global temperatures continue to climb rapidly.

At the same time, the poorest peoples of the world, with the least historic responsibility for climate emissions, continue to bear the brunt of climate breakdown.

As you will be aware, nearly a year ago, at COP30 in Belém, the UK endorsed a fossil fuels transition roadmap. More recently, at the Santa Marta TAFF conference in April, the UK reiterated its support for such a roadmap. Since then, France, Germany and the Netherlands have all published plans.

In this context, it is unacceptable that the government is still yet to publish a comprehensive domestic roadmap"The post is a text box on a dark green background. In the box is a parliamentary paper-style letter extract that reads:

"The UK cannot claim global leadership at COP31 while expanding fossil fuels at home.

Ending all new licenses – including Jackdaw and Rosebank - and publishing a clear
roadmap will demonstrate that the UK is not merely calling for global transition, but
actively delivering the domestic plan required to deliver one.

Can your department confirm that such a roadmap will be published before COP31?
And will you meet with me to discuss how we can work together to advance this
strategy?

Yours sincerely,
Carla Denyer MP
Green Party Spokesperson for Energy and Net Zero"

Corbyn was pretty much on the way to winning the election. Until Reform stepped back to get Boris in. As we now know both Farage and Johnson received a nice little bung for that arrangement.

Dear journalists, does Burnham's speech match up to the visions presented by Jeremy Corbyn when he was leader? Or is it less aware of what needs to be done? And why did we have to endure another ten years of neoliberalism and austerity? You're just afraid of the Greens, who'd do it it for real, no?

How about taxing the people with private jets, the frequent flyers, the people whose carbon footprint is destroying the planet? That way you could reduce inequality, fund social care, invest in home grown renewables, and restore sanity to the climate to improve food security. Win, win, win, win.

Why didn't Andy Burnham address the climate and harvest crisis? He's going for fake subsidies to pretend things feel better when they're actually being made worse. Come on Andy. No new oil and gas. No more runways. No data centres. We need realism. Only the Green Party gets it.

Dear BBC and prime minister the "net zero efforts we've seen were tokenism insufficient and funded in the wrong way. The answer is not to open the strait of hormuz, still less drill for more expensive and insecure oil and gas. The answer is to install the low energy resilience we should have had.

Wey hey!! Two cheers. Hurrah! I’m almost, but not, quite, mildly excited that something might not be ruled out in a few years time. Way to go, Andy. Bold, bravely ambivalent, solidly ambiguous, resolutely vague leadership, at last. 🙄🙄🙄 www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Wrong question. It isn’t so much a question of whether he can or can’t. It’s whether we WANT him to do so given how utterly corrupt and wicked Trump’s régime is. Would we WANT him to have a “strong relationship” with Hitler’s Germany. Isn’t is just WRONG? Fly under the radar maybe. At best

You don't solve the refugee problem by moving from hotels to barracks. You solve it by 1. Processing those waiting for an answer. 2. Addressing the causes of displacement, famine, economic deprivation and war. 3. Being honest about what is making life more and more rubbish for UK residents.

If you're a crypto billionaire, there are plenty of philanthropic and patriotic things you could do with the money. You could join the patriotic millionaires and ask to be taxed more, to fund good public services. You could donate to research, higher education, scholarships, climate mitigation...

It's not enough to say the donors won't get peerages or contracts. They don't ask for either. Those donations are for political influence, to turn this 🇬🇧 into a place where only the super rich thrive, where crypto currency is not regulated, and there's no protection for ordinary working folk.

I don't recall any of the pensioners who held up cardboard signs to protest genocide, covering their faces to hide their identity, or fighting the police while being arrested as terrorists.

It seems to me the most incriminating bit of the Farage exposure is the list of foreign donors who launder their money by giving it to their son or other UK connections. This is not just willingness to consider doing that. It was a list of who they already knowingly do that with.
