The Slaughter case, overturning precedent, returns us to a spoils system where a president can “clean house” every four years, destroying our professional, independent civil service.

The only message not voting sends to a politician is that your opinion can be safely ignored because you will never hold them accountable. That's it. You can tell yourself not voting is good for your personal brand or your moral well being, but never pretend it makes a difference in the real world.

If you believe that not voting sends a message, you’re wrong. It just shows you’re out of touch. If you want change, you must go to the voting booth. Voting is your constitutional right to make changes to your government. Register to vote, help a neighbor, help someone get ID and register to vote

Fun fact: Wilson taught at Bryn Mawr for 3 years. Also: Wilson’s first wife Ellen Louise Axson was an artist who helped his academic research by translating scholarship from German into English. She died in 1914, leaving Wilson a widower in the White House. #hatm #suffs

Can we talk about how states had been passing Married Women's Property Acts since 1839 (Mississippi)? MWPA were one of the first agenda items, and victories, of the women's rights movement. Coverture just was not as ubiquitous by 1913 as #suffs would have us think. #hatm

This is my favorite staging/structural move in #suffs. Instead of hearing Paul’s speech, we only hear Catt’s simultaneous inner monologue. Catt had a lot to be proud of, having re-energized the stalled out, divided suffrage movement as a vibrant strategist in her long presidency of NAWSA. #hatm
