Pleased to have solved this one: #OnePlaceWednesday Eliza Steer was a nurse on the Woodlark 1874 - she witnessed a codicil to the will of Elizabeth Sewell in Romford, Essex 1876. That's Elizabeth Sewell, the wife of NZ's first premier, Henry Sewell, who left NZ on the Howrah 1875 with unnamed nurse.

A codicil to the will of Elizabeth Sewell (1819-1880) witnessed by Eliza Steer, Nurse, Romford, Essex.

Anyone else finding problems with 1851 England census on Ancestry? Not displaying other household members and just gives a completely random list of names, none of which bears any resemblance to the image. Need to click on the 'View others on page" & save each person individually. #GenHour

I discovered the 1727 will of my 7xGGF, Henry Asikell in the PCY wills, then in the York Cause Papers a previous 1722 will. The daughters had been disinherited by their brother in the later will & son steadied the hand of his father, he 'being a little troubled with the palsie'! #GenHour

In case you missed it, we had an eventful Easter! 16 million of our records, including our massive collection of wills, are now available to search and view on Ancestry.com (and can be accessed for free onsite at the Borthwick). www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Y-DNA tested my paternal cousin back in 2024, then target tested a potential half 4C1R, upgraded to Y-700. I now have the result I wanted: Abraham Maginnis b abt 1786 was most likely the father of my GG-Grandfather, Wm Thompson. #GenHour Stoked as initial Y-111 results were genetic distance of 6.

This date is an estimate based on genetic information only. With a 95% probability, the most recent common ancestor of all members of haplogroup I-FTH30442 was born between the years 1445 and 1870 CE. The most likely estimate is around 1704 CE, rounded to 1700 CE.

An unwelcome surprise! Family Search have removed access to inquests from 1925 onwards in 'New Zealand Coroner's inquest reports, 1888-1938' so they are no longer available to view at home. The restriction is 50 years from date of death, so why? Need to visit to Archives in Wgtn now. #genealogy

I've been investigating the 'Woodlark' passengers that went to Whanganui then got side-tracked looking at their employers. Some prosperous enough to have their photograph taken but also a couple of rogues - bigamy & bankruptcy. #OnePlaceWednesday More to come. app.weare.xyz/public/the-w...
