Happy National Marine Week! ๐Ÿ‹ This year we celebrate the ocean's Incredible Journeys. Nature is full of amazing journeys. From molluscs battling across rockpools to Arctic Terns soaring from pole to pole. Over the next two weeks we'll dive in together and learn about some of these adventures ๐ŸŸ

๐Ÿ‘€ Weekly Sightings Update ๐ŸŒŠ ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿคโ€๐Ÿง‘This week our #MarineConservation volunteers carried out 38 #DolphinWatch surveys! ๐Ÿ“We had regular sightings of dolphins & observed foraging, leaping & socialising. ๐Ÿฌ Seabirds spotted included greater black backed gulls, cormorants & oystercatchers. ๐Ÿฆ

๐Ÿšฎ Our #MarineConservation volunteers have conducted 12 beach cleans this month! ๐Ÿคฉ We've collected 2,178 pieces of litter. ๐Ÿคฏ This includes 641 plastic items, 607 cigarette butts & 481 pieces of paper/cardboard. ๐Ÿคข Please respect our coastline and take your rubbish home with you! ๐Ÿ’™

We visited Skomer Island this week with Manx Shearwater Rescue! ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ ๐Ÿ๏ธ The photos might be of puffins but we discussed the internationally important breeding colony of Manx shearwater. ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿฃ Manxies are nocturnal when on land as they need to avoid predators. ๐Ÿ›Œ #SkomerIsland @wtsww.bsky.social

๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ By-the-wind-sailors may look like jellyfish but they're a colonial hydroid ๐Ÿ“š ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ They're made up of a colony of tiny individual animals that work together!๐Ÿคฉ They use their sail to "catch" the wind and drift around on ocean currents ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธso it's not unusual to find them washed up. ๐ŸŒŠ
