Musk buying twitter, Bezos buying WaPo, Ellison buying CBS—all are less profitable now. But they’re political investments that increase the value of the new owners’ portfolios Wealth concentration makes this possible, and that’s one mechanism by which inequality destroys democracy

One of the reasons we love Leslie around here is that we can unceremoniously fire the entire senior leadership of 60 minutes, a third of their correspondents, and have Bari meddle in their stories and she buys that we’re keeping it independent. 🥰

According to @jeremymbarr.bsky.social, Lesley Stahl led a few '60 Minutes' staffers in a champagne toast yesterday, telling them that David Ellison called her up and promised the show would remain independent. One staffer pointed out Ellison had made that same pledge when he bought CBS last year.

New: I am told by a few sources that Lesley Stahl led a champagne toast for some '60 Minutes' staffers yesterday.

She told staff that David Ellison had called her and pledged that the show would be independent and also apologized for some of the recent turmoil and said things would get back on the right track.

I am told that one staffer did push back and note that Ellison had previously pledged editorial independence for the show when he first met with the team after acquiring Paramount...

The nerve! The absolute unmitigated gall! How could the Senate possibly subject our heroic, beyond-reproach David Ellison to something as barbaric as questions? This is clearly the greatest injustice of our time. 😤

We’re not gonna weigh in on who’s telling the truth between our TDS afflicted reporter Weijia Jiang, and the American president who bravely protected Israel. We will present both sides and let the viewers decide.

The White House Correspondents Association releases the following statement from its president, CBS News correspondent Weijia Jiang, noting that the invitation was extended to Trump to attend the WHCD.

One the next “Things that Matter” Town Hall, we will be bringing in Rep. Randy Fine to discuss how Washington DC can tone down inflammatory rhetoric and how we can leverage President Trump’s example to unite the country.
