My kid (an artist) was told, by an art history professor on the first day of class that if they don’t use AI then they should learn to serve tables. Someone that teaches about the creativity and work of artists! Just gross.

Started my 10th year of teaching at my university today (15th in a tenure track position). I have mixed feelings, but I always look forward to talking about archaeology and science with students regardless of the rest.

Hey Archaeologists, I'm doing a new class in the Fall on Collaborative and Community Archaeology and I was hoping y'all could turn me on to some articles or chapters that I could assign for my class to read. I have a good start, but would love to learn about more. 🏺

AI makes everything less interesting to me: music, writing, art, thinking (or lack of), and most importantly the people who use it. It is the experiences we have that make us interesting and when you give those experiences over to a computer you immediately become less interesting.

We teach our students not to use people’s work without citing them (plagiarism) yet we increasingly allow AI to do just that. In fact, many teachers and professors have encouraged its use. G-AI is mimicry and plagiarism with enough distance from creators to provide its users plausible deniability.

I have been lucky enough to travel to Greenland a few times. It is a beautiful land with beautiful people. They don't deserve this kind of worry and fear. Just leave them alone and let the Kalaallit rule themselves and their traditional lands.

Got to see my favorite movie, The Warriors (1979), on the big screen last night. I was too young when it came out in theaters originally, so it was a great to finally see it in that venue. Still think the Baseball Furies should've been better with their bats than they were.
