Regardless of the merits of data centers, this is not an appropriate use of public lands, because it monopolizes the land for a single private entity rather than keeping the land as multi-use, defeating the whole idea of public lands. Let Valar purchase its own land if it needs space.

SCOOP: Valar Atomics is planning a massive nuclear powered data center on public lands in Utah. The 9,600 acre site would include 456 reactors, along with fuel fabrication and waste storage facilities. www.npr.org/2026/09/30/n...

I’m calling on my fellow public servants - Democratic and Republican - to reject the influence of AI and Big Tech spending in our politics and elections.   Americans deserve full confidence that our federal government focuses on their safety, not on companies' profit margins.

In Illinois, we strive to give everyone what they need to thrive. We take care of our neighbors — and together, we will fight to end poverty and food insecurity in our state. On Hunger Action Day, the need for action couldn’t be greater.

And when people in DC are like it is rude not to invite the President; maybe, if you act like a Constitutional Goon, we treat you like one. You are a temporary tenant, buddy. You preside, you don’t rule.

Every Appropriation Bill next year should have specific instructions that Congres require an agency to submit regular, detailed accounting reports as a condition for receiving their budget. No more 17 million dollars to RFK, instead of infant mortality health.

And when people ask what should the Democrats do, particularly in light of the fact that the President retains a veto: plenty. I will start with the petty: do not invite the President to give the SOTU. Have him send a letter. A more substantive approach: it is time to audit the Executive Branch.

Please stop overestimating what a democratic Congress can do. The oligarchs are spending money to make you think a Dem Congress can arrest people and hold trials and pass laws without a POTUS signature so that you’ll be disappointed when they don’t do stuff they can’t do. Don’t fall for it.

I've now gotten three reviews from right-wing media outlets of Pregnancy Interrupted while most center and left-wing outlets have avoided coverage of a book that contests the cultural norms we put around the science of pregnancy.

Lucille Ball is the Godmother of #StarTrek. As head of Desilu Studios, she overrode her own board of directors to finance the show & convinced network executives to greenlight a second pilot after the first one failed. That second pilot, "Where No Man Has Gone Before," first aired #OTD in 1966. 🖖

A digital portrait of Lucille Désirée Ball (1911–1989), the legendary Emmy-winning actress, studio mogul, and "Godmother of Star Trek" whose decisive studio leadership famously saved the franchise from cancellation. This artwork is an AI-adjusted version of an original piece by artist Jamie Fay—which initially depicted her in Captain Janeway’s uniform—now modified to show her in an Original Series Starfleet uniform. Ball sits confidently in a prominent command chair on a starship bridge, legs elegantly crossed at the knee and hands resting on the armrests. She wears a form-fitting, gold command-division tunic featuring a classic black collar, rank braids on the cuffs, and the iconic Starfleet delta insignia pinned to her chest, paired with sharp black trousers and low-heeled black boots. Her signature red hair is styled into an elegant upward coiffure, framing a poised, contemplative expression as she gazes slightly away from the viewer. The background features a sweeping, cinematic view of a colorful interstellar nebula glowing with purple, green, and blue cosmic stardust. The overall composition blends mid-century Hollywood glamour with classic sci-fi iconography, evoking an empowering, authoritative mood that celebrates her immense historical impact on television history.
