Our colleagues are part of two sessions this afternoon at #CIUK25: - Overview of the NetworkPlus Programme - From ExCALIBUR to DRI, linking the UK's compute programmes. They're also at the stands for CAKE and ARCHER2-Cirrus. Come and say hello! edin.ac/4pR8dpL
The ExCALIBUR/DRI session at #CIUK2025 is continuing with talks from current DRI projects. We have SCALE-UP, SHAREing, NFCS and CaSDaR on stage.
#CIUK next talk from Hubert Naguszewski (Warwick) on numerical simulation of alloys. A hard problem to do well with Monte Carlo. Compare method with quantum annealing methods in www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
Exploring the thermodynamics of disordered materials with quantum computing
A quantum annealer is employed to search for low energy states on complex energy landscapes of disordered materials.

This article suggests the possibility of training AI on pre-existing proposals and their review reports, scores and related decisions. I.e. training them on a system which is known to preferentially award larger amounts of money to white men. What could possibly go wrong?
UKRI exploring use of AI in grant review - this will prompt debate but interested to know if people think it’d encourage novelty or the opposite? www.chemistryworld.com/news/ukri-op...
#CIUK day two kicked off with the @whpcanz.bsky.social breakfast, now Jason Nucciarone and Dominic Sloan-Murphy telling us about Ubuntu HPC
#CIUK kicked off in the main hall first with Paul Walker explaining how to use immersion cooling in data centres and now Crispen Keable (Eviden) telling us how Jupiter HPC was built
Weronika from @epcc.bsky.social kicks off the Understanding dRTP landscape breakout at #CIUK25, the first of several #DRI project breakouts and sessions this week. Led by CHARTERED, DisCouRSE and SCALE-UP the session is exploring dRTP roles and progression
Posters are also good, break was busy with discussions. Asa explaining his joint work with @spacetimelassie.bsky.social on benchmarking @dwavequantum.bsky.social systems

Want to use one of the fastest quantum simulators but hate writing python or C++? I've just open sourced a project with high level Rust bindings for Qulacs. github.com/quantinuum-d... Still reasonably unstable but hopefully minimally usable now!
