In the summer of 2026, the Mediterranean is experiencing its longest-ever run of consecutive days with mean sea surface temperature of 28°C or higher – 34 days so far – and the streak is still ongoing! 🔥🌊 This streak is twice as long as the next longest and seven times as long as the third one.

August 2026 broke the record for the mean monthly SST in the Mediterranean, with 28.2°C and a mean anomaly of 1.9, which also marks a new record since the @CMEMS_EU reprocessed data series start in 1982. Daily record was also set on 20 August, with a temperature of 28.7°C #MEDMOS medmos.eu
