Interesting. Beijing beats London: • You can rent the bikes for equivalent of pennies (a London Lime bike is £10.90 for 30min, PAYG) • The bikes look light. There's been a spate of broken bones from heavy London rental bikes because of where the battery is placed. Child seat needs to be standard 😄

Over the past decade, Beijing has experienced one of the most remarkable cycling renaissances in the world, powered by an innovation that has quietly transformed everyday mobility: dockless bike-sharing. Millions of residents suddenly rediscovered the joy of the bicycle, without needing to own one.🧵

People of all ages and abilities wearing casual summer attire ride blue, yellow, and green shared bikes on dedicated facilities along the streets of Beijing.

Children in my neighbourhood have some nice things to say recently about my attire. A girl told me she liked my sunglasses and a little boy said excitedly "Mum look at that lady's top!" ("Is it a good one?" she said, busy doing something else 😄). It was a top I'd found in a charity shop

Hot day? Head here. More trees. More planting. New wetlands. Grosvenor Square is reopening on Monday 20 July to cool London. Better for your summer, our city’s climate resilience, and the West End.

The licence people used to regularly send me threatening letters and one evening even phoned me - I assume to ascertain whether they could hear EastEnders in the background. (I didn't have a TV!) "Shout out to the 3,000 legends who still have a black and white licence"

500,000 fewer households with a TV licence in the last year.... people just ticking the box for 'nah I don't need it'. Realising that TV detector vans don't actually exist. Shout out to the 3,000 legends who still have a black and white licence.

I recommend giving this a listen. London's buildings and streets invariably look away from the Thames but for centuries the Thames was the focus - the liquid highway as @davehillonlondon.bsky.social calls it. How could Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea make more of it?
