At SIGGRAPH 2026 I saw this absolute banger of a paper by James and James. Beautiful imagery, matched by beautiful technical work, by a father and son team, which won a best paper award. I've always loved marbleization patterns. dougjam.github.io/mixwell-2026/ www.linkedin.com/feed/update/...

TinyBVH has just been 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝟭.𝟴.𝟬. For CPU ray tracing, it is now the fastest option in most cases - Outperforming Intel Embree and Madmann91 for BVH build time and single-ray performance. On GPU, performance exceeds 4B rays per second - 4 rays per pixel at 4k/120Hz. github.com/jbikker/tiny...
Our #HPG2026 paper "Memory-Efficient Bounding Volume Hierarchies with Merged Nodes for Hardware Ray Tracing" introduces new ways of constructing BVHs that consistently outperform state-of-the-art BVHs for GPU ray tracing. Project page: graphics.cs.utah.edu/research/pro... @ebrunvand.bsky.social

I'm happy to endorse Sheldon Andrews @uboolean.bsky.social for the ACM SIGGRAPH Executive Committee. He will be a great person for this important role.
Sheldon Andrews (profs.etsmtl.ca/sandrews/) is running for the ACM Executive Committee this year. I've known Sheldon for a long time and I think he will do a great job ! I voted for him, you should too www.acm.org/elections/si...
At SIGGRAPH 2026, I will present a paper titled "Continuity-Enhancing Degree Elevation and Splits" that can form C2 (or higher) curves from a given C1 curve, because we can only do C1 with Bezier handles. Video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzDO... Project Page: graphics.cs.utah.edu/research/pro...

There's a new paper out in JCGT by @jamportz.bsky.social et al. that proposes a super simple modification of existing microfacet models to implement a retroreflection model. What's interesting is that although insanely simple, the model fits measured data pretty well! jcgt.org/published/00...
Remember it's not too late to get on board with this. I think it's important to stand up for underrepresented people even in minor ways. You can always send your submissions to TOG which has a new EIC and new faster turn around times. #SIGGRAPHAsia 2026
About 6 months ago, I publicly announced that I would be boycotting #SIGGRAPHAsia 2026. Today, I released a video explaining my rationale and calling on others to do the same, because I believe it is important. Here it is: youtu.be/bZ6s0-EQp8M
Today, I received this wonderful porcelain figurine as a gift from one of my students, Ziheng Liu (libero0809.github.io), who defended his PhD last week.
Our Y1 IGAD programming students just finished the Ray Tracing block. After the basics, many added depth of field, path tracing, reprojection, filtering (including SVGF), a Teardown-style TLAS, and much more. (by the way.. You can still sign up for CMGT/BUas before May 1st - be quick!) #thisisigad
@cemyuksel.com I’m with you, I definitely will not see you at SIGGRAPH Asia No submissions, no reviewing, no service.
I could not be more disappointed in the management of SIGGRAPH for this, the most spineless of PR blog posts. Count me as someone who will not have their name on any submission to SIGAsia 2026. If enough of us withhold the content they sorely need, maybe next time they will engage more earnestly.

I am boycotting #SIGGRAPHAsia 2026 because it will be in Malaysia, where there are serious safety concerns for the LGBTQ+ members of our community, thereby excluding them. I will not attend, submit my work to, or perform any reviews for SIGGRAPH Asia 2026. Yet, I'm excited about #SIGGRAPHAsia 2025!
