We are a nonprofit that promotes bicycling as a vibrant and sustainable mode of transport and recreation. Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, we strive for a safer streets and more people riding bikes.
If you want independent kids who know how to navigate their environment, you need to get them out of the backseat of the giant SUV
When cities are designed around people rather than cars, a new face to the term "cyclists" begins to emerge. It's one that encompasses all ages and abilities that get to experience the freedom of independent mobility with safety, comfort, efficiency, and enjoyment.
Join us on Sept 15th for a (1) virtual lunch and learn with @wesmarshall.bsky.social, and (2) a walking tour of the 46th St Safety Demonstration Project. indympo.gov/plans-initia...
This is bad. Drivers: Phones down. Don't speed. Stop blowing those red lights. Get a rideshare or take the bus home from the bar. Be careful out there everyone.
🚨 We have tracked an alarming number of bicyclists struck recently. Of the nine total incidents reported since 8/31, eight involved bicyclists. One was fatal. One resulted in serious injury. Four more resulted in injury with medical transport. @centralincycling.org #SafeStreetsIndy #Indianapolis
There are so many mid-block bus stops in Indianapolis at neighborhood side streets, shopping center entrances, & apartment complex driveways, where pedestrians have no crosswalk, no lighting, & 4-6 lanes of high speed motor vehicle traffic to "run and pray" to get across. Dangerous by design.
Second trip in a row where I'm staying at a hotel where you have to be nearly suicidal to try to cross the street to get to the adjacent bus stop going towards downtown.
September rides! Join us for a member picnic and support advocacy efforts. We love pedaling into the Fall. mailchi.mp/centralincyc... @bikeleague.org
Police departments treat e-mopeds & e-motos like motorcycles in Indiana. Those riding them thinking they are e-bikes are in for an expensive & awkward police-involved interaction. Motorcycles must have a VIN number, be registered, insured, & the rider must be licensed with a motorcycle endorsement.
Current state law in IN treats both e-motos & e-mopeds like full-up motorcycles, but consumers (parents, teens, & utility riders) don't know that. They're not getting them registered, they aren't insured, & young folks definitely aren't licensed motorcycle riders. docs.google.com/presentation...
Don't wear earbuds or over the ear headphones while cycling. It is dangerous (& annoying) to block your ability to hear around cars, other riders, & folks walking / jogging / skating. If you are wearing earbuds, leave one ear open or get bone conduction headphones that allow you to hear.
Just saw a post by a cyclist who wears earbuds. Please don’t do this. Bone conduction headphones are a much safer choice. I come across too many cyclists or runners wearing in-ear buds that have no situational awareness. It’s just not worth the risk, for you or others.

Unless there's a big project, Indy DPW Operations shouldn't be driving heavy duty trucks on the Monon Trail and Indy greenways. They have smaller Kubotas with trailers, and we don't know why they don't use those trail-sized vehicles.
There’s a huge DPW truck speeding down the Monon just north of Kessler @indypedcrisis.info @indyvisionzero.info @safestreetsindy.org @centralincycling.org

Oy! Watch out for the rage drivers.
Used the Cultural Trail to bike home from work. At South/East/Virginia, I had to go around a car blocking the crosswalk. The driver thought I touched their car & started yelling all sorts of insults. And then threatened to k#ll me with my own backpack. Neat.
Tonight (7/25) is the NITE Ride in Indianapolis! There is a 6-mile route for beginners, families, and those just looking for a short jaunt. Most of the riders will be doing the full 20-mile distance. This is a wonderful, healthy, & connecting celebration our our city at night with over 1000 riders.

Many cities have eliminated wasteful parking mandates for new developments. Property owners aren't forced to build more parking than they need, which is especially important for properties near popular greenways, historic village centers, and transit. Good that Indy is considering parking reform!
See you on Monday 👀
Riding 160 miles is a lot easier with friends. Get in the paceline! @centralincycling.org Ride Across Indiana June 27, 2026
Deadly by design. This has been a known issue for a long time, both by safety regulators, Congress members, & the US auto industry. They are knowingly designing, marketing, & selling vehicles that are unsafe for those around them - especially those walking, biking & getting to bus stops.
"“We see a lot of devastating collisions even at lower speeds because the pedestrian gets punted forward... Before the driver knows what’s happened, the pedestrian’s head is under the wheel” "Anyone shorter than 5-foot-6 ...would frequently be rammed to the pavement. So would most children."
New routes this year for the NITE Ride! We're getting an earlier start at 9:30 pm. Light up your bike. Let's roll. July 25th! mailchi.mp/centralincyc... T-shirt pre-order deadline is June 28th. Don't wait to register.

Another fatal crash at Raymond & Shelby. This hit & run of a wheelchair user at the known dangerous intersection is tragic. This was the location of a memorial gathering & call for safety improvements in Nov 2025. Raymond continues to be a dangerous & deadly corridor. Drivers race & blow lights.
