Photography and cycling around Indianapolis, plus random other stuff like sourdough bread and whatever I'm reading.
Tomorrow I’m riding 100 miles in the Dust Bowl 100 gravel race. Afterwards for recovery I’ll be… riding more for the @centralincycling.org NITE ride around Indy (registration still open!), where I’ll be taking photos. Night street photography is tough! Here’s a couple shots from my recon ride.

Then we developed CCDs and digital detectors, which turned light into precise data that computers could analyze. Around the turn of the century, advances in software and computing made large-scale sky surveys possible for the first time. 🔭🧪

Two years ago this weekend we took a trip to Helsinki. such a wonderful human-scale place. Multiple transit options, bike lanes everywhere, walkable. Cars felt like equals, not kings.
“Helsinki hasn’t registered a single traffic-related fatality in the past year…Citing data that shows the risk of pedestrian fatality is cut in half by reducing a car’s speed from 40 to 30km/hr, city officials imposed the lower limit in most of Helsinki’s residential areas and city center in 2021.”
A small story that may help brighten your day: This morning, cycling to the gym, I came across a car on the side of the road, out of gas, driver in distress. I stopped to check on the driver, but what could I do? I was on a bike in my gym clothes, no gas station around. 1/
These two photos (from the beginning of the expired disposable camera roll) make a neat pair!
The long-expired disposable I got from @mjrichards.bsky.social made pictures! Developed with CineStill CS-41.
I don’t know how they got there, but the Emrichsville Dam has now claimed a truck. Welcome to the war on cars?
The ever-prescient @paolobacigalupi.bsky.social scores another one. That is a clipper ship! www.wsj.com/pro/sustaina...

Indiana: hey Indianapolis, we’re going to severely underfund your roads, but check this out, we’ll go halfsies to help cover the shortfall, k? Btw make sure you prioritize the roads we use to commute in, thx!! https://mirrorindy.org/indianapolis-marion-county-wheel-tax-increase-city-county-council/
Don’t forget what REALLY “drives” a lot of regional growth and infrastructure politics. It’s pretty much this. Great drawing via Ian Lockwood.
One of the hardest working people at Bike Party, Mountain Dew Man (I should really learn his name) takes a well-deserved break.
Happy Pride! Canon R6, Walimex EF 85mm f/1.4 Carrying this lens is a high risk/reward proposition: tough to nail focus, but I absolutely love its rendering when I do.

Going to be a great evening for Bike Party! Who's going to be there? www.facebook.com/share/195Vh9... I'm going to be taking a ton of photos; I would be anyways, but I also need to prep/practice for the N.I.T.E Ride next month. centralincycling.redpodium.com/central-indi...
White River trail crossing 16th street is actually… nice? Remind me how long they’ll be working on the bridge?
