Boring on about my cats and junior parkrun. On the longest career break. Have I mentioned my cat went missing for 10 years and then came back?

The MC Escher exhibition at Somerset House is very good but very crowded for a ticketed event. Also the worst gift shop I've ever seen. Incredible artwork though, I liked the early stuff which is very simple but creates such complexity.

One week left of the summer holidays and only one thing left to tick off the "list of things to do in the holidays". How's that for parenting folks? Also I may really have run out of London museums now.

I am short sighted. I started wearing glasses as a child and every eye test my eyesight got worse until I was in my 20s. My eldest child is also short sighted. They have myopia control lenses and a completely stable prescription since starting with them. Science is so cool.

A spark from railway work started a fire that burned through a bunch of gardens in my corner of SE London. So I'm all for that emergency alert. It is dangerous out there at the moment.

I'm failing to get excited about the eclipse and I've concluded it's because it involves too much planning. I don't have the spare brain space to be thinking about how to view it and where to view it. Someone just hand me a cereal box with a hole in please.

Have got to the final season of Buffy with the teenager. I warned them without details that there was lots of annoying stuff in this season. Mostly Kennedy. Kennedy has just turned up and instantly I got "who is that? Oh god, is that Kennedy?". Instant hatred.

I am watching Before Sunrise and am reminded again how annoying it is that I am not, in fact, Julie Delpy looking stunning in a strappy dress over a t-shirt. Style. Icon.

Currently enjoyed watching the few Labour councillors in our area post things like "we are asking the council to do more about fly tipping and put CCTV up." Do they think we have forgotten they had years to do it themselves?

Buried the old cat's ashes underneath the lavender bush where she liked to sleep. Current cat immediately went to investigate, dancing on her grave or a last goodbye?

A black and white cat crouched in the dirt next to a small geranium plant.

Got up at 5am, ran a 5k at Biggin Hill, made it home in time to have a cup of tea and marshal at parkrun. Running on a runway involves more incline than I was expecting.

It's going to be scorching today but the youngest child is determined we should do something. Now I'm trying to find some woods that we've not been to recently and will prove entertaining enough for him and cool enough for me.

My junior parkrun had our highest ever turnout of volunteers today. 31 adults and kids who decided to give up their morning to help others. What a lovely thing.

I have seen a number of people expressing surprise at the Lewisham result because the Labour council were "good". Good at what? Conducting endless reviews into support for children with SEND but never actually doing anything? Putting yellow tape on fly tipping? Running inaccessible consultations?
