Slowly working my way through a collection of Richard Hofstadter essays and am on the silver bug essay and while I can get how people could (and still do) get very keen on the gold standard v fiat currency, but the enthusiasm for bimetallism (both silver and gold at a fixed ratio) is just bizarre

This is terrible news. When I started on Night Waves (now Free Thinking), Frances was one of the figures everyone looked up to, which led me to Who Paid the Piper?, which is dazzling, inspiring investigative history. I went round once, to ask her about the cold war and chess. She was very kind.
