I used to live across the street from the National Cathedral. The apts were run down, but the view was spectacular, & when there was a funeral on, the people watching was high-level. ID-ing the unsavory foreign policy villains was my favorite activity. It's weird to say, but I miss funerals at WNC.
My university has announced it will be "rightsizing" - a euphamism for laying off contract faculty while protecting cossetted VPs & AVPs. And it's not just my uni. Every academic i know is facing something similar. So its absolutely shocking to see a uni president actually think outside the box!

This feels desperate and out of touch. Most Americans have been to an Olive Garden (more than once - those breadstix are addictive!). And they all know from personal experience that you do NOT have to show an ID to eat there.

I have a piece in the NYT today arguing that the law should permit victims of ICE abuse to sue not just individual officers, but supervisors and policymakers like Stephen Miller and Gregory Bovino. A Democratic president and Congress could do this in 2029. And they could make it retroactive.

Will be interesting to see how this shakes out (no pun intended). KY is a red state but Burgin seems united against a data center being built there. And the trust that owns the remains of the nearby Shaker Village isn't too happy either. Hopefully Mother Anne Lee has some sway from beyond the grave.
