Resident Evil was a lot of fun! Great to watch with a big audience (one moment in the film even got a spontaneous round of applause!) The Evil Dead comparisons are appropriate - it's less schlocky and slapstick, but just as chaotic and entertaining.

I've avoided this so far by turning kids in to nemeses instead of fans. So every time I meet one I've met before I get a Shadow of Mordor style cut-scene where they shout: "Oi, there's that artist what did that bad drawing in my signature book!" It's been very helpful if a little terrifying.

Pro tip for children’s authors! Occasionally when meeting children at signings and stuff, a kid will proclaim ‘I have met you before!’ and be very offended that you apparently don’t remember them.

I made the mistake of scrolling left on my Google phone and was greeted with this AI summary of a news article. The band Muse is completely unrelated to the story, of course. This is the technology they've been ramping up the Skynet rhetoric about this month.

Kingdom Hearts. I love Disney animation, I love Final Fantasy. So it seemed on paper to be the ideal pitch. But I HATE crossover media. You compromise the integrity and tone of both things for a weird theme park discord. The only ones I ever enjoyed were the Judge Dredd Alien comics.

I feel like my emotional response to the eclipse will fully tilt me into either Astronomy or Astrology and I'm scared for my financial future in either case. Telescopes are expensive. Crystals are expensive. I can't win.

Thought The Odyssey was incredible. It was so wonderful to enjoy the slight of hand of special effects again. I also enjoyed the reframing of such an old story to give it a potent new weight in the world we live in today. It's not subtle, but it weaves an apparent magic of its own.

Seeing System of a Down live was incredible. But a hundred of us piling into a nearby pub afterwards where we sang nu metal into the night was legendary. Limp Bizkit - Break Stuff... I understand it now. It's best shared with friends.

Obviously it's hard to overstate just how great Sam Neill was. His performance in Hunt For The Wilderpeople is one of my favourites and if you've not had a chance to see it you should take time this week. You won't regret it.

I have a bit of a quirk where I struggle to register big milestones and events in my life. It still hasn't quite sunk in that between The Phoenix and this I'm doing my dream job, but seeing this in the biggest book store in Europe did feel really really cool. I drew these dorks!

Enjoyed Supergirl. Imo it could have been a bit longer to expand on some of the emotional beats and a few more moments to soar. I also could have done with the planet locations being a bit more weird and alien. Both Milly Alcock and Eve Ridley were great together! Lobo was fun but kinda aimless.

Me, some years ago aghast at Taylor Swift fans paying over £200 for a ticket: "Hah! Could never be me. I only listen to off-putting musicians that charge 40 quid!" Me today, booking Muse tickets with my brother: "Well, if we're spending £150 we may as well pay £200 for better seats."
