Día de los Muertos in Denver #EastCoastKin #Photography #Stunday #Fuji #PhotographersofBlueSky #PhotographersUnited #AlphabetChallenge #WeekRforReligion #ColorADay #OrangeSun

A young girl stands in a portrait-format frame, dressed as a Catrina for Día de los Muertos. Her face is painted white like a sugar skull, with dark eye circles, a black nose, a stitched line across the mouth, and red and black rhinestones. Her expression is neutral and she looks straight at the camera. She wears a wide round hat of pink-red glitter ringed with dark feathers like a halo, long straight brown hair, a sheer black veil, and a red bead necklace over black lace. She holds a large bouquet of maroon silk flowers, orange and yellow marigolds and a pale yellow dahlia, with a black feather boa and a skeleton-gloved hand among them. Behind her are walls of red, orange and pink paper flowers, a red drape, and a strip of purple at upper right.

The black costume reads as one dense shape against a field of analogous reds and oranges, which separates the figure from the background. The bouquet and paper flowers are the loudest elements, but the white painted face is the brightest point in the frame, and the direct stare holds the eye there. Soft front light and shallow depth of field turn the backdrop into color and texture. The marigolds and paper flowers echo ofrenda altars, and her stillness sets this apart from a festival snapshot.

#AlphabetChallenge #WeekPforPaper "Obey with Caution!" I've loved Shepard Fairey's anti-propaganda, anti-1984 Big Brother message, wittily & deliberately delivered as Soviet style agitprop art, for yrs. He's brilliant. #Photography #ECK #UrbanGaze #ArchForma #ArtMessages #StreetArt #ArtDesign

This street art installation showcases a wheat-pasted concrete barrier covered in bold, political posters by artist Shepard Fairey, utilizing his iconic red, black, white, and cream color palette heavily influenced by Russian Constructivism and propaganda art.

On the left, an intricately patterned poster frames a young person holding a guitar labeled with Woody Guthrie's famous anti-fascist slogan, "This Machine Kills Fascists," which celebrates art and music as grassroots tools for social activism. Next to it is a stylized 3×2 grid of the "OBEY Giant" face, a high-contrast abstraction of wrestler Andre the Giant designed to spark conversations about media inundation, state surveillance, and unreflective societal conformity. Dominating the right side is the large "Obey with Caution" print, depicting a grimacing, distressed woman leaning back with a star-and-eye emblem beneath her.

Accompanied by the text "Blind Acceptance Can Be Hazardous," this prominent piece acts as a direct warning against the dangers of unquestioning obedience to corporate and governmental authority, reinforcing the overarching theme of systemic critique and visual disobedience.
