Carson McCullers's debut novel, "The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter," was published this week in 1940. McCullers wrote early sections of the book in Charlotte, NC, while living in a boardinghouse on East Boulevard that is now Copper, an Indian restaurant.

the question "why are you a poet?" seems to me much like the question "why are you gay?" as if i could explain. and even if i could, i wouldn't want to. i like thinking of poetry and queerness in a similar way—that which needs no explanation. all the most beautiful things don't.

H.R. 7661 is a national book banning bill which seeks to remove any book that "involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism" from all public schools in the US. This would ban all my books, & any other book with trans themes, from public schools. PLEASE call your House Reps & say: NO ON H.R. 7661!
