surveillance does not achieve any positive goal without a massive negative consequence. it is bad. surveillance does prevent some crime a bit, but more than anything else it gives abusers tools to abuse, and creates a juicy attack surface for bad guys to get all the data

You cannot make mass surveillance "safe" or "good" by adding more guardrails. The only way to make Flock safe is to get rid of Flock. www.gpb.org/news/2026/08...

the only funny thing about this to me is that they probably spent a bunch of money to figure this out and i could have told them a decade ago for probably a lot less money
You say that hiring young people purely based on their ability to be obnoxious and provocative and racist enough to attract an online following might present some problems when the time comes to actually govern?! 🤔🤔🤔
it's shit like this, this discourse-porn where people seem to achieve rapturous gratification over both-sides-ing absolutely fucking everything the wnba should be embarrassed for allowing any of this to get this far the athletic/nyt should be embarrassed for calling any of this "journalism"
Speaking for the first time since ralliers began assembling in support of her stance against transgender participation in women’s sports, Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham said this was an opportunity for the WNBA to uphold its values of diversity and inclusion. nyti.ms/4fHr4Qn
this is a very sober and even-handed interpretation of where dems are and where they need to be. highly recommend.

i had a much better mental health week at work but i also woke up this morning, notably not a work day, and did research and notes for work that research was completely about how over-leveraged i am though i feel unable to disconnect and that's, uh, also bad

my greater issue with this is that this was happening before 2024, before 2016, before 2008, before 2000. it happened a bit less and a lot less publicly/brazenly, but it still happened and there was too much apathy about it then too the course correction should be severe enough to reflect this

Rep. John McGuire: "I don't know if you heard about the BLT sandwich -- using human fetus baby parts in the vaccine when they could've used ivermectin"
the minority owner called the courtside-seat-sitting anti-trans bigots "fucking insane" and while that may be rude, did the wnba forget the part where their game was trying to be hijacked for a bigoted political message? we do not have to tolerate bigotry. quite the opposite.

i'm going to take this as the law stating explicitly that patel is a "googly-eyed kremlin bitch" that's not what the law is stating at all, but i'm going to take it that way, because doing so improves my life in a small but fun and harmless way
A federal judge has thrown out the FBI director’s lawsuit against a blogger who called him a “googly-eyed Kremlin bitch.” trib.al/ouHgmYA
