surveillance does not achieve any positive goal without a massive negative consequence. it is bad. surveillance does prevent some crime a bit, but more than anything else it gives abusers tools to abuse, and creates a juicy attack surface for bad guys to get all the data

my greater issue with this is that this was happening before 2024, before 2016, before 2008, before 2000. it happened a bit less and a lot less publicly/brazenly, but it still happened and there was too much apathy about it then too the course correction should be severe enough to reflect this
