Batman Japanese Menko cards, 1960’s. A couple of these poses you can tell were taken from Adam West promo photos. I love semi-bootleg art like this where details like colors are a bit off model, and probably unlicensed. This time period was rife with this kind of Batman merch, especially overseas.

And let’s not forget the projects he probably had the most eyes on, his animated TV commercials for Crest toothpaste (Cavity Creeps, anyone?) and Honeycomb cereal.

Happy Herb Trimpe was born OTD in 1939. When he arrived at Marvel in 1967, John Verpoorten initially had him working the photostat, but he would become a generation's HULK artist, and draw DEFENDERS, GODZILLA, SHOGUN WARRIORS and so many fabulous fill-ins. He died in 2015. A giant of comics.

RIP Gerry Conway, author of countless seminal comic stories from my (and so many other’s) childhoods. I especially loved his pairings with artists Jose Luis Garcia Lopez, Don Newton, John Romita and Jim Aparo. A great writer and human.
