Stainsby Hagg Farm, in Doe Lea, sits on the land of a rather well-known Derbyshire country estate and has a proposed demolition order against it. I'm sure farmhouses of this type are common in the area, but it'd be nice if it were re-used for something. Nice little heritage centre? #Derbyshire

Found myself in the charming village of Sampford Peverell in Devon earlier this week. An info board described this hill as the location of a castle, but a little further reading suggests the location is unknown. These earthworks are the supposed remains of the castle and moat. #archaeology #lidar
We (the Barrow Archaeology Group) completed our 2nd test pit in the village yesterday. Got down to 70cm again and ended up with clay and flecks of charcoal at the bottom. What might this layer be? skfb.ly/pLOnt 📷Me #archaeology #testpit #photogrammetry #Derbyshire
First day of the Barrow Archaeology Group's demo test pit (giving future volunteers a chance to drop in, have a look, a chat, and to have a go if they want) and we come down onto this pebbley surface thingy. Which was nice. #communityarchaeology #archaeology #Derbyshire
Wouldn't it be great if just once a manager of a national #football team clamped down on diving, play acting, overreacting, and just stamped it out completely. I've seen so many players in this #worldcup that wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes on our school playground if they fell over so easily!

Gave the drone a heat test today with a flight over the site of old Glapwell Hall to record the parchmarks. Amazing just how perfectly preserved the old drive is, and how accurately the cartographers plotted it! It's given us some mystery blobs, too! Shame the old chapel eludes us, though! 🏺
I'm involved in a community #archaeology project in Glapwell, #Derbyshire, and this particular #map had evaded us because it's not georeferenced on NLS. We noticed this 'Bath' 300m west of Glapwell Hall that's not on other maps. Any ideas what we could be looking at? Plunge pool? Ornamental?
Morning everyone 🌞 there are still a few tickets left for tonight's talk by @jpwarchaeology.bsky.social talk on the #Castles of #Derbyshire. There's something for everyone at @buxtonfringe.bsky.social

Seeing as I watched the England highlights in bed at 5am and didn't want to wake Beck when England scored, this Egypt vs Argentina match is the loudest I've shouted this World Cup. Come on Egypt!!! #worldcup26 #ARGEGY
We're digging a demo test pit this weekend (11th/12th July) for the volunteers of the Barrow Archaeology Group's test pit weekend in September. If you're interested in getting involved & want to see what's involved in digging a test pit, head to our Facebook page www.facebook.com/groups/barro...
Are there any English Civil War-era military historians/archaeologists knocking around on here? I've tried to contact a few people without any success, so I thought I'd see if there are any on here who might be able to cast their expert eyes over something. Ta #civilwar #military #archaeology
It's been in the pipeline for ages, so it was amazing to finally get the 1st phase of this project going! 2 days of geophysics at Chaddesden Park, Derby. Huge thanks to Colin & Andrés (Sheffield Uni), the AOC team, and the DAS volunteers. Hopefully this leads to phase 2 >⛏️ #Derbyshire #Archaeology
Sheffield Uni are spending a couple of days in Chaddesden Park, Derby next week, conducting magnetometry (Monday 15th) and GPR (Tuesday 16th) surveys of the park. There are a few spaces on Tuesday if people want to get involved. But unlimited spaces on either day for archae-chats! #archaeology

This beautifully converted barn in the Peak District is our home for the next few days. A quick check on the HER tells me we're on the (probable) Roman Road from Buxton to Melandra. And the owner told me that Roman soldiers used to march on the track that runs on the ridge above us. 😁 Happy days!

A community archaeology group I'm involved in are looking at insurance for our first test pit weekend later this year. We've had a few quotes (Markel & Everywhen), but just wondering if any community folks on here could recommend any others? Ta! #community #archaeology
Dr Carly Butler from Derby Uni, in partnership with @nationaltrust.org.uk and Historic England, is leading this 'Youth Voices for Heritage' research. There's an online survey that takes 15-20 minutes. The deadline is 11th June. derby.questionpro.eu/youthvoices #heritage #nature
Photographed a 'People of the Peak' volunteer session this weekend. Spent the afternoon wandering through these magical woods around Grindleford. They were learning all about monitoring scheduled monuments, so had a look at a lovely medieval settlement too! @peakdistrict.bsky.social #peakdistrict
I don't suppose anyone knows of any training/workshops in the Midlands that focus on using drones for photogrammetry? (It's for use in a heritage project, but I figured the request was niche enough already!)
1996 might just be the greatest year for music. Here's another absolute corker of an album. Texas is the Reason's "Do you know who you are?" This one really gets my nostalgia ducts working overtime. #30in26 #musicsky #listeningto
Students from Sheffield Uni conducting a GPR (ground penetrating radar) survey over the site of Chaddesden Hall in Derby earlier this week. Phase one of a (hopefully) wider project. Excited to see the results! #geophysics #archaeology #Derbyshire
Booking is now open for this year's training dig at Derventio (Little Chester) in Derby. Run by @yorkarchaeology.bsky.social, this is a fantastic way to get some training in archaeological excavation. Last year's dig was great fun! #archaeology community.yorkarchaeology.co.uk/training-dig...

Impromptu walk around Dale Abbey this morning. Don't think spring mornings come any more perfect than this. Showed Beck the hermitage and the old Abbey ruins, including the cottage built against the huge chimney from the abbey kitchen. #derbyshire #archaeology #heritage
Another absolutely essential album turns 30 this year. Failure's "Fantastic Planet" so often gets overlooked in all the 90s lists and articles, but it's SO SO SO GOOD!! #listeningto #30in26 #music
The finds that we got around to cleaning from our test pit trial day. Still finding whiteware 60cm down was a little annoying, but all adds to the story I suppose! Nice chunky Pancheon Ware sherds though! Continuing this weekend to see if we can get to an older layer! #archaeology #derbyshire
